Most only require a four year degree because so many people have a four year degree. It’s a diluted market. Making it more diluted isn’t going to help.

Making college free wouldn’t expand the amount of people who would attend college.

America has a higher degree rate than most European nations

We give ample loans to kids who come from poor families

There is not a student in America who can’t attend college because of cost

How have college students--simply by having gone to college--improved the population and made us a healthier society?

More educated? How does greeting a degree in sociology make one better educated? You, like so many, don't know what education is and diploma mills for peons able to retain enough information to dump it out on a test doesn't produce an educated populace.

Not sure where you get that idea but most white collar jobs do not require a 4 year degree.

Higher attainment =\= more educated. Not any more.

So how much of your paycheck are you already donating to help people with their healthcare and education?

Or are you one of those people that is only "charitable" when the government forcibly takes your or someone else's money?

Its not. We (well some of us) pay isht ton in taxes for it.

If it valuable... why should it be free? Should golf be “free”. That isht is valuable isn’t it?

The idea that valuable, scarce and necessary things should be free is completely backwards.

If this were the case people would pay for it willingly — not only at the end of a gun.

Going to school and having fun for a couple years before dropping out OR a degree in some useless shite doesn’t make a person educated. How about they push people that aren’t good at school into trade schools? Can’t order your plumbing, electrical work, etc. from amazon.

Most of a college education is information learned. To that degree, it can and therefore should be free since information can flow freely without someone else’s service. As far as hands-on, tangible elements of a college education...that requires someone else’s service and therefore isn’t free.

Haven’t read the thread yet but i imagine someone is making the point that if college is free then a college education means nothing.

If that’s the case, then free college would be the best thing to happen to this country in years.
