Well you picked the worst examples.
These chicks are tiny, granted.
Like 99% of women do not have stomachs like the ones someone posted above in the hip huggers, so the fat muffins out in low waited jeans.. even on petite women. High waisted pants smooth everything out under clothes, as HC mentioned. High waisted jeans + a normal length shirt look fine and you wouldn't even know they're high waisted unless the chick lifted her top.

I mean, to be fair, any chick that isn't an IG model like these would wear a long shirt with them. The point is that it holds in your mid section compared to the alternative..
The above shows through even loose fitting tops. What sucks is often times you aren't even that heavy, but the low rise pushes it all into a roll right there. It sucks.
At the store I shop at, there are high waisted and then there are SUPER high waisted. The high really aren't all that high.

It elongates your figure if you aren't comfortable in a crop top or tucked in shirt.
A long top that isn't tucked in the front can make shorter women look boxy/stumpy - or like you're wearing your mom's clothes that don't fit.

Chicks with nice bodies look great in them. Fats and too skinnies look awful. Similar to any other piece of clothing.
