Curious to see where everyone stands on this. These are our house rules:

-no electronics at the dinner table
-iPads do not leave the house except for long drives
-iPads are allowed for use based on behavior and chores completed
-youtube has recently been removed from the kids bedroom TV's. We have observed them watching too much garbage on there recently. YouTube is living room TV only.
-kids do not have phones.

Kids are 6 and 9 for reference. I am 38, wife is 35.

Do you limit their time or just let them have at it? If you aren't then the problem is still there. They need to be bored so that they can use their imagination and play gun fights with sticks outside or go get muddy and breathe some damn fresh air.

Wife is not allowed to use phone after 6 PM. Wife must hand over remote control at all times except Sunday evenings when football is not on. Wife is not allowed to read online news or listen to any outside sources aside from myself

Absolutely. Usually 20 minutes max at a time.

I don’t have kids but those rules seem reasonable considering their ages

I just skipped the children part and enjoy the frick out of my electronics and guns. Sometimes, I play with electronics and guns at the same time.

I don't have any kids, but I like to think that I would put restrictions on how much screen time my kids would get. I don't think it's good for children to occupy their entire day with tv, video games, etc.

That said, I am completely aware that I know jack shite about the hardships of working AND raising a child. If I had kids, I might be guilty of just throwing them the iPad to get some peace and quiet, and therefore making myself a total hypocrite.

TV time is managed as well. I can cut internet access to their TV's from my phone if they watch too much or dont behave.

I think I’m in the minority here but I don’t mind my kids using their iPads. We load them with a ton of learning apps and games, as well as Netflix and Disney plus. My son (4) was way ahead of his class on his colors and letters and numbers etc, and I really believe it was from the learning activities on his iPad.

We don’t have set rules, other than if they’ve been on then for a while we’ll holler “hey, put the iPad down, time to play with toys”

He has a cousin who is almost 2 who has never been allowed screen time in his life. I understand all kids are different but that kid lags way behind where he should be at this point, and he’s going to be at a disadvantage later in life when it comes to technology.

Kid is 10. All homework done then it’s fine. Off it at 9pm. She puts it down and goes outside, plays piano, games, Draws a lot. so we’ve never had to really regulate her. I know a lot of kids who won’t get off the damn things so I understand the rules.

I understand why you don't want the children glued to their electronic devices, but given our substantial technological advances in the past 20 years, don't you think you're doing them a disservice by not allowing them to keep active and current with modern technology?
