Baton Rouge's first homicide of 2020 almost went undiscovered and unreported after detectives and death investigators made an incorrect assumption while processing the scene, overlooking the victim's gunshot wound and declaring his death an accidental drug overdose.

It was funeral home workers who uncovered the mistake while preparing the body the following day.

That prompted the coroner's office to reconsider their assessment and left homicide detectives scrambling to collect evidence. Now the family of Joah Ross is worried the investigation was compromised from the beginning.

How do you do that? Even if it's a small wound...there would still be blood.

You might could see where cops would miss it. They aren't expected to be smart or even experts, but the coroner. Come on. If he/she can't tell why someone died, needs to be demoted to fry cook. probably need to reopen some other cases for that "death investigator".

Article says it was a shot to the chest and there was blood everywhere. But they saw drugs in his room so they assumed overdose lol

Wow

Didn't read the article. BRPD really is scraping the bottom of the barrel in hiring detectives now aren't they?

Well, that is incompetence.

“Hmmm...where do you think all the blood came from?”

“Definitely came from the needle injection site.”

“Call it.”

Gonna make it really hard to prosecute if they can even make an arrest.

Could it be that a cop killed this guy and BRPD are covering it up.
Sounds fishy

I think it's more likely that the coroner is taking instructions from the mayor to get their murder numbers down
