Mayor Pete: “Jesus was born a refugee”

OK, that was paraphrased to fit into the Subject Line space.
Why did Pete avoid using the name “Jesus?”
Why did he mention poverty, when Joseph was likely a reasonably comfortable member of the working class?
Jesus, Joseph and Mary were not “citizens” of anything, though they were “subjects” of King Herod and in the land in which Jesus was born.
Why say that Jesus was born a refugee, when the family did not flee to Egypt until some time after the birth?
But he DID say “Merry Christmas.”
quote:Lots to unravel, and fair to ask why Pete phrased the tweet as he did.
Today I join millions around the world in celebrating the arrival of divinity on earth, who came into this world not in riches but in poverty, not as a citizen but as a refugee. No matter where or how we celebrate, merry Christmas.

Pandering to the slave class immigrants

Jesus’ parents weren’t liberals, as they were traveling to go pay their taxes.

Jesus was not born a refugee. His parents were paying their taxes when he was born.

Well he also likes men. He is a confused person it seems in everything.

And they probably would have ended up like this if not for heading to Egypt-
Sub the rifle with a spear but same idea.

Joseph and Mary were citizens sent by their government to Bethlehem, their ancestral home, to take part in the census. That proves their citizenship!

Obvious attempted link to the plight of all the good little illegals in this country just looking for a better life, like Jesus' parents were...
Of course, he would argue that he is not living in sin either, so I really do not care about mayor Pete's take on the subject...

Jesus Christ favored traditional marriage between man and woman.
Jesus Christ also was very specific about TWO genders (not a million-zillion).
Bet faux-Christian mayor Pete is non-biblical in his views on those subjects....

Lol, Joseph and Mary were not refugees, they were going to his home town to participate in a government mandated census and to pay taxes. I guess it's not surprising he missed that little detail, since he managed to miss all the parts of the bible that say dudes are not supposed to bang dudes

He's an Episcopalian, what do you expect?

The technical answer is because Nazareth is almost 90 miles from Bethlehem.

This.
He temporarily became one when Herod ordered the slaughter of the Holy Innocents. After Herod’s death shortly thereafter, they returned.
