Water leak

Got a letter from my water utility saying that their monitoring has found my water running non-stop and I may have a leak. According to them, we used 6300 gallons. I have not found any leaky faucets or any other obvious leaks. Any idea on how to find this?

6300 gallons in what time period?
Any toilets running?
May be time to spend a few dollars with a plumber.

Assuming this is over a month you are using 1.5gal every 10 minutes. Less than 10gal per hour.
Pretty easy to monitor your meter and see if this is true. Should know if it is a leak or not. Also check to make sure your meter readings the last few months are within reason, and the current month had a correct reading.
If you have something like a pool or out building you can isolate them to narrow down the potential leaker.

Turn the water off one at a time to each toilet & monitor the meter for usage

Call American Leak detection. They will be able to pinpoint the issue.

May be leaking in the ground between the meter and the house.
I had this problem once

If it's leaking that much water into the ground, it should have already shown up as a huge wet/muddy spot in the lawn.
If leaking under the slab====Good luck with that.

Put colored toilet bowl cleaner in the TANK of your toilets. Do not flush and monitor all toilets to see if you have a leaking flapper.

Thanks for all the advice. I don't think it's a toilet. I haven't heard one running when it shouldn't. I may have to give that Leak Detector company a call.

Water meter is at the main road. Over 1000 feet of driveway up to my house.

Are you sure you have a leak?

Won’t necessarily hear it leak. Had it happen to me last month. Our water bill tripled. Put some dye in the tank and immediately saw where it was leaking into the bowl. Would recommend doing this in all your toilets. It’s a simple fix also if it is leaking

6300 gallons used last month. Just two of us in the house.

Im asking if you verified the meter is turning at that rate.
Or if it was a reading error on their part.

Won’t necessarily hear it leak.

Write down water meter reading. Cut water off at house valve (somewhere in the house) for a couple of hours. Make note of what meter says after having water cut off. Also perform same test but cut off water at meter as well.

6300 gallons in a month?
That's not that much I don't believe.
I don't know about your meter, but mine has a small dial that picks up very minute leak. With a faucet running it spins like crazy. With a tiny leak it is barely moving. maybe check and see if your meter has one.

6300 gallons in a month does not seem that excessive and I’m surprised it generated a letter. Are you sure it didn’t say 63,000 gallons because that would be alarming. I think the 2 of us use between 3000 and 6000 and maybe a little more or less depending on if lawn/garden being watered, cars being washed, etc.
I guess if they can tell that it is running non-stop that’s more important than the amount. I didn’t know they monitored that closely.
