Why are so many of you idiots thinking that chimps = gorilla?

There’s this idea out there that chimpanzees are superhuman strong,” says Matthew O’Neill at the University of Arizona in Phoenix. Yet his team’s experiments and computer models show that a chimpanzee muscle is only about a third stronger than a human one of the same size.

Yes that’s the point. They’re freaks compared to someone of a similar size to them. They’re also savages compared to a civilized human, so of course they’ll be more vicious when attacking.

However they’re not stronger then these linemen. Even much older studies had them as about 3x as strong to their comparable human equivalent in size. More recent ones have them as 1.3-1.5x. Then consider that these linemen more than 3x their size.

Maybe. Big guys don’t usually grow up fighting and if someone gets in a fight that isn’t used to it, there is a silent clock that is ticking on their effectiveness. Even more so when the person is large and muscular. If you’re large enough to be able to maul me like you describe, I am going to be close enough to make you think I’m engaging while keeping enough distance to tire you out before truly engaging. Once you’re gasping for air and the lactic acid is flooding your muscles, you’ll realize your dilemma, but your pride won’t let you quit. At that point, I’m not going to hit you in the face, but in a couple places that will make you wish you were dead. Then you’ll quit and hope that I’m an honorable guy.

A trained MMA fighter will have trained wrestling and ju jitsu extensively and will be in positions where you can not manipulate or rag doll them like you’re hoping. So they could be much more aggressive than me.

yall are retarded. look at the arms on that chimp. are you seriously trying to say that that chimp is barely stronger than a 12 year old? The study you are talking about is the muscle fibers. so the muscle fibers are stronger, but the weight of the chimp is concentrated differently than a human and basically zero fat. A human with the exact same amount of muscle on the arm the chimp would be 1.3-1.5 times stronger. That chimp would grab you by the ankle and flip you on the ground. Then climb on top of you are bite a hole thru your head with those 1" fangs all while tearing at you face and neck with the most powerful hands you have ever felt in your life. It wouldnt even be a contest without any kind of weapons.

And for the record, I’m in my mid 40s and haven’t been in a fight in over 20 years, broke my back twice, broke my dominant hand in a fight (which never healed right) and felled a tree on my shoulder smashing it pretty good, so none of what I posted applies to me anymore.

Yeah that’s why I said they’re freaks compared to a 12 year old. Of course you have to look at relative lean muscle mass since that’s what the study is on. Did I have to describe how freakish?

And why are you ignoring these guys are more than THREE times the size of these chimps and heavily muscled themselves. Yes they have less muscle mass % then that of a chimps but they still have significantly more muscle mass.

In addition the only way this works is if the human is also fighting the chimp to the death. In ALL these scenarios you guys act like the humans will be scared or succumb to the pain. So they actually don’t fight which isn’t what the question is about.

In a true fight to the death and with adrenaline pumping to the body, we are much stronger and quicker then normal. Our teeth and our fingers are also able to heavy inflict damage. It would be extremely painful and damaging to ourselves but it can be done in a life or death situation. Again you guys assume the chimps are adrenaline pumped but not the humans fighting.

If your 12 year old was 175 lbs and about 5'7" standing straight up and has the leaping ability of about 2 Jordans with the distance of Bob Beamon and Usain Bolt muscle twitch speed....and very sharp eye teeth
