Rocky would have been the nominee not Bashear
So is that why bashear put rocky in his cabinet?
So he won't have to run against him in 4 years?
I thought rocky was going to run against Mitch?

Keep pardon power, and vote out morons like Bevin. I can’t see a governor in a southern (kinda) State surviving cutting child molesters loose.

you could introduce a constitutional amendment banning lame duck pardons but that would prevent good pardons for people that were actually wrongfully convicted that either had not enough evidence or prosecutorial abuse.
bullshite. If they are that deserving. Pardon then immediarely

Really that’s not how it works?
Yes.
We only have one Governor/President at a time.
They serve for a FULL 4 year term, not 3 years and 10 months.

And I’m proposing changing when that happens.
And it will never happen.

just don’t allow the outgoing executives the ability to exercise their powers such as unilateral executive orders, pardons or signing legislation.
Completely dumb and unrealistic.
Their constitutionally enumerated powers don’t disappear just because someone else was elected.
An election only means one thing to the incumbent, they have just two months left in their term regardless of whether they are re-elected or outgoing.
Again, they serve for a FULL 4 year term, not 3 years and 10 months.

If you don’t have the balls to do it early on, then don’t do it at all. No different than what you teach kids about talking behind people’s backs.

Problem is the best candidate to run is not there, more like a 1/3 of a candidate
Rocky could beat Bevins for governor but not Mitch for Senate
1/3 candidate in Amy (raise money and exposure at national level and veteran)
1/3 candidate in Jones (been in ever county in the state and everybody knows him)
1/3 candidate in Rocky (old school KY politician and popular outside of the blue)
I talked to Rocky this past summer and think he knew running against The Turtle meant a deep war chest and love form the national party. Not going to happen as the DNC has their head up their arse at the moment.
BTW, you never did give a range for your age.

Better yet, don't vote morons like Bevin in, but as he was R and not D he got in.
Problem is it will cost the party dearly after he is out. Will be a strike against the next R candidate even if he is a good guy.

Welcome to Tigerdroppings and the 99% of the internet.
I’m not discussing the likelihood of the situation just the advantage/disadvantage.

One idea is any pardon in the last year has to be approved by the legislature before the person is released.
No, frick that. If the citizens and legislators don’t like it change the laws

That's pretty close.
Also, I think I called you a not so nice name. I would like to apologize for that.

Well either scenario would require changing the law so not sure what argument you are making.

Tis OK, most on here are young whippersnappers trolling for entertainment.
I am an old fart raised in the south and from an era where finding common ground was preferred to anonymous internet posturing. Social media usually seeks the lowest common denominator.
Are you a a native of DaVille?
What does L1C4 mean?

Bevin pardoned those whose relatives ponied up the money he wanted. That was the only criterion for him. He is the slimiest creature ever to have held a political office in the Commonwealth. Even enlightened Republicans voted against him or didn’t vote for governor at all.

We did that in TEXAS a century ago.
Here, only if the Board of Pardons and Parole recommends can the Governor grant (and the Governor can choose to say no). All the Governor can do on his (or her) own initiative is a 30-day reprieve, and then only one time.
