Going to the game and have never been to Atlanta. Any suggestions on what me and the wife shouldn’t try?

To name a few:
Gun Show
Miller Union
The Optimist
Tons of great restaurants here, but I would suggest making reservations soon, especially for Gun Show

I lived in ATL for several years and can tell you that if you like Jewish deli food this place can't be matched: The General Muir

Chops next to the St. Regis is a good spot.

Hals is probably my favorite Atlanta restaurant, but it may or may not be what you're looking for.

Marcel is the swankiest steakhouse in Atlanta. Bones is the most classic. Chops is a great all arounder (book downstairs). Little Alley is a transplant from the burbs but it's very good with a great build out. Rathbun Steak is very good if things are booked up and you're in that part of town.

If you end up outside of the city (Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, etc.) let us know and there are recs specific to those areas.

Last time I was in Atlanta I was unable to make a trip to The Varsity because we stayed near Suntrust Park for ballgames. Will be coming in for the Peach Bowl and plan on stopping by. Is it worth it?

I wouldn't plan my day around it, but it's iconic and I enjoy it occasionally.

If greasy fresh cut fries and chili dogs served by people who yell at you sounds attractive, definitely don't miss it

It was OK. I guess it's nostalgia since the place has been in business forever. It's hard to mess up hot dogs, get them w/ slaw, chili & cheese. The onion rings and the peach pies were good though.

Get you a good breakfast at Homegrown. The chicken biscuit with gravy will cure a hangover instantly.

I'm staying close to the stadium so I'll be pretty close. May have to swing by and give it a try. Thanks for the info

The Varsity is definitely the type of place that if you've never been, you should go. It's not going to blow you away with anything (I think the onion rings are kind of great, though), but it's a neat 'check it off your list' experience.
