There’s no rationality behind it that i can detect. Even if you looove government... one has to look at that $22Trillion debt, and the SS liabilities and think... and question the wisdom of becoming fully dependent on that for anything.

One time I filed my taxes and got rejected. I don’t itemize and have a fairly simple return so I just get it done on turbo tax as soon as I get my W2. The IRS said my SSN was wrong (it was not) I called in and after a long wait they said I needed to go confirm it at the SS office and send that back.

So I go grab my number at the SS office and wait 3.5 hours. When I get up there, they tell me that my SSN card number is wrong. I show them my SS card and the last two years accepted returns. They then look me up via address and say my card, DL and other documents don’t match what they have on file for my address.

Those MFers changed my name on file from Myles to Miles after 25 years of being alive and almost 10 years of paying taxes. Then SS wanted money to issue a new card for correction.

So in order to make sure I paid the government correctly, I had to lose 5 hours of my time and pay for a new SSN card just so I didn’t get fined by the government for paying my taxes late because they made a mistake.
