He’s basically winning the same amount as Richt with far more talent

Only if people think he’s better than Richt. Both are good coaches. Bama and LSU are tough opponents to judge success on

It's dumbfounding the amount of people that think this comparison is some kind of insult. Early era richt was amazing and one of the hottest young up and coming coaches in the game. I take it as a high compliment their records are similar.
If Kirby has a 7 year run like Richt's final 7 years from 2009-2015 get back to me. Richt was fired because of his end years, not his first ones.
People also only look at this at face value and don't realize kirby has truly accomplished more on the field during the same time span, and set us up for the future way better than richt.

I could be mistaken.....but Kirby seems to have inherited a MUCH better situation than Richt. maybe you can expound?
For the record, I think Kirby is astronomically overrated as a HC.

The “pro style” offense they run makes winning so much harder than it should be in today’s game.
The irony is no one in the pros still run that type of offense either

why? how? where is he rated? what are his results?
ill help.
the last 3 seasons, we have finished the year 2, 5, 5. winning our division all 3 times and winning the conference once.
if you have him in the top 2, you have him overrated. anywhere else, why not?

Exactly, until Kirby wises up and moves to a more wide open offense, he's going to keep running into the wall.
He's basically just Bert with far better talent.
Even Saban realized he had to open it up a few years ago. But that's the problem with many defensive minded college coaches with elite talent. T

Not much better no, but probably "better". Donnan wasn't much of a HC but he could certainly recruit. His '98 class (that would be seniors in 2001) was top 3 or 4 nationally and at the time one of hte 2 or 3 best classes we'd ever signed in our history. I believe all 11 starters on the 2001 defnese (richt's first season) started in the NFL at some point.
Kirby's first year in 2016 didn't look anythign like the talented roster he'd soon assumble. At LT we had to start a transfer from Rhode Island. At RT we were playing an out of position guard. At QB it was between greyson frickin lambert or a true freshman in eason. Top to bottom, man for man, yeah 2016 was probably better off but it's not nearly as wide of a gap as people want to make it out to be.

I don't think that's fair. He's accomplsihed as much as any HC not named Dooley in uga history, and he's only 4 years into his head coachign career. People want to compare his accomplishments to saban, miles, oregeron, whoever else while only using those guys' prime years and not their first years at MSU, OSU, ole miss, etc. The guy is still learnign how to be a HC, so obviously there will be a learning curve there. Where I think he massively needs help is knowing how to delegate and play more of a CEO role like orgreon has recently learned to do, instead of beign so involved in everything ESPECIALLY THE OFFENSE.
Also for him to be "astronomically overrated", where would he need to be rated? He's generally considered a top ~5-7ish head coach, and in his 4 year coaching career has accomplished things commiserate with that I'd say.

Also highlighting how crazy difficult it is to win a NC.

Jim Donnan recruited a lot better on the offensive and defensive lines than Richt did. Smart did not inherit a better situation in that regard.

But does Kirby do all this while also starring in NCIS? I think not.

Not really. Donnan was a great recruiter.

In defense of Kirby...I doubt he would've gone 1-2 against inferior Ron Zook teams.

I mean, Richt was a very good - and at times, excellent - coach through the first half of his tenure at UGA. That's not exactly a bad standard to be compared to. Had the ball bounced a bit differently for him a couple of times, he probably would've won a title.
ETA: An .808 career winning percentage (what Richt was for those 4 years) is pretty much automatic Hall of Fame in the modern game. Only a handful of guys are above that.

the only "inferior" teams in 4 years I can point to we've lost were this year to SC and last year against Texas. For the most part, kirby seems to beat the teams we're supposed to.

In defense of Richt, he had to compete against Meyer for several years. Kinda balances out

Richt was a better coach but Kirby's a dirtier recruiter so it's a wash
