Kiffin was born on third base but he can coach. Kiffin smells like a rose after we see what has happened at USC since he was fired. USC and their administrators are more problematic than Kiffin ever was. Plus, Kiffin had to deal with scholarship limitations due to USC's probation. And, Kiffin, might be the most famous coach in college football who isn't Saban. Rappers and athletes love Lane. Lane has a Rick Flair sort of reputation and like I said he can coach. Lane would have FSU challenging Clemson in two seasons flat. If FSU hires Norvell I get it but Norvell will have to face a learning curve coaching and recruiting on that level. Lane has worked in arguably the two highest profile programs in college football. Plus, Lane has credibility among the South Florida youth football scene.
If Lane goes to either Ole Miss or Arkansas watch how many South Florida kids he's going to get.

He’d be an interesting fit at FSU or Miami

I agree. And, it appears both of those schools have incompetent athletic administrators.

Very accurate statement, he's about to be a Hog and bring Randy Shannon with him.
We are going to kill in South Florida.

Rotten fan base ?
And it's the administration that's stupid. They approved Taggart for god's sake. They have a former politician as president , that says a lot.
We are saving Kiffin for you guys. Bama is below Dabo.

Hell, a large chunk of their fanbase still thinks they are better than Norvell and don’t particularly want him. Maybe they’ve come to terms with it by now, but they weren’t hearing it 3 weeks ago.
You really think Norvell is a 11-1 or 12-0 coach ?
I sure as hell don't think he is , he's more of the 9-3 or 8-4 at best.
No way in hell he's worth a 30M gamble.

Ok, but who are you hiring that's better?

Why would anyone want that dumpster fire of a HC is the better question.

FSU is too proud to “settle” for Kiffin

Spoiled rotten? Hell yes. I should know. I went to grad school there. I came in not caring about FSU sports one way or the other. By the time I left I was cheering for UF to beat you each season, and I fricking hate UF.

Who else are you going to get and what are you going to pay them? The market dictates what guys get paid when they are up for jobs. That’s the deal, whether you think he’s worth it or not.
Case in point, Mike Conley became the highest paid player in the NBA three years ago. Was he worth that in a completely open market? Absolutely not. I love the guy, but no. However, he was the best free agent available in a year when the salary cap happened to spike because of a new TV contract. In that particular year, he was worth that contract because if the Grizzlies didn’t pay him, another team would have given him the max.
The same thing is happening with Norvell. He is the best, easily acquirable piece on the board. Anyone below him will be more of a risk. The guys above him will demand far more money due to the risk of leaving stable situations or will just flat out say no. You guys fired your coach in 2019. This is the deal.
Can Norvell win big. I think he can, but it isn’t a given. However, you guys fell for sizzle last time. Norvell brings real substance. He recruited well above Memphis’ level. If he can hire a great staff and prove that he’s capable of stepping up in weight class, then he should be fine. The thing in his favor is that you know he will focus on it, where a guy like Dan Mullen may be a great coach, but he doesn’t give a shite about being a big-time recruiter.
Norvell also knows how to put a staff together. Memphis has had constant turnover during his time because he picked great guys and many got hired away to better positions or bigger programs. It is incredibly difficult to maintain consistency with that kind of churn, but he did it. He won’t face as much staff churn at FSU, but I think it speaks to the fact that he knows how to put a group of guys together that works. That translates to any level, especially when you have a program with a great tradition of winning.
The man also knows how to build a program up. He followed one of the most successful program rebuilds I’ve ever seen with Justin Fuente at Memphis. They went from the bottom 5 of the FBS to beating a really good Ole Miss team and going to bowl games in just 4 years. That is an incredibly tough act to follow. However, he didn’t just follow it. He improved on the job Fuente did and that has always impressed me. I don’t have any clue if he could have performed the resurrection that Fuente did, but I do think the program went further under Norvell than it would have it Fuente had stayed. FSU isn’t that bad of a rebuild, so Norvell should be well-suited to what you need.
Again, there are no guarantees, but if he can apply the things he’s good at on a P5 level, then he won’t have problems winning at FSU. As for competing with Clemson and winning titles, there’s no way to predict that. I would have never guessed that O would at LSU, but here we are on the doorstep.

So who do you think they go after? I understand FSU not wanting to gamble on a lower tier coach, but the power 5 guys seem to be locked up (Campbell, Leach). I don't think Franklin leaves Ped State but who knows?

Odell would be a better choice.
If you are going to settle for a coach who is going to only get you to the Poulan Chain Saw Bowl instead of the playoffs , why in the frick would you pay him 5 million plus a year ?

Willie Taggart never had any sizzle. Seriously. Never. He was supposed to be a hire similar to how you feel about Norvell.

Norvell may be a better coach than Taggart but like I said earlier there's a learning and recruiting curve that Norvell must meet if he's hired at FSU; FSU is a blue blood program and not a mid-major. Time will tell but I don't think Norvell is a guy who will lock down elite Florida prospects anytime soon.

Taggart was a 30m gamble that failed.
The boosters are not going to bail the administration out again.
A 9-3 coach isn't going to fill the stadium , millions were lost in revenues with Taggart as the coach.
There were games where the attendance was under 40,000 . 30,000 empty seats is 2 plus million in lost revenue.
I don't care what the market says , if an employee and his staff cost more money than they can bring in , that's not a smart business deal.
Norvell would be stupid to sign a non guaranteed contract.
He's not worth the gamble of a big guaranteed contract in my opinion.

Kiffin has his issues but he makes the most financial and football sense.
