SI reporting Clay Helton is out

While a Utah win over Colorado on Saturday spoiled that bid and ended USC's regular season, the university had already decided to make a coaching change, per sources. A school spokesman declined to comment Sunday morning; Helton could not be reached.

Recruiting was fine, he signed top 5 classes in 17 and 18. This year, they’re sitting at 20, and would’ve made a big jump to close out. IMO, they have Urban locked up, and that made the decision to get rid of Helton easy.

California was/is getting complete pillaged by the SEC elite, Clemson, Oregon, and Washington. Nobody in California wanted to play for him. USC's class is currently ranked 76th, not 20. There was no choice, but getting rid of him or USC was done.
Carol Folt and Bohn are making solid moves so far. Nice to have functioning adults in charge for a change.

Spoke to a couple of folks plugged in on the #USC situation who think the report that Clay Helton is getting dismissed is not accurate and that no such decision has been made to do anything like that. “I know Clay hasn’t been fired,” one USC source just told me.

Now the coaching search season is heating up. With all of these schools on the market there are getting be some real bad coaches getting real big paydays
