Sampah...bringing back the thump!

I think one thing our defense has lacked this year has been those jaw-dropping hits at the LOS that we've become accustomed to with our LB'ers.
I went back and watched Sampah's 2018 highlights and I believe he will bring the thump back! Big hitters set a tone that can totally change the outcome of games from a momentum prospective. When this kid hits someone, 2 things happen..they good backwards and they go down..violently!

I've seen a good amount of thumping this year. I will take less thumping, if it means more wrapping arms around the ball carrier.

I agree with that. My description of his tackling skills is the very thing we are missing..violent hits followed by wrap-ups and a ball carrier on the ground. He is advanced with respect to technique imo.

Tackling has become poor at all levels of football.

That’s one thing Tyler Taylor has in his short lived LSU career. I really thought Jacob Phillips would’ve progressed better in that aspect! I mean, if we can just our LBs to hit half as hard as Laron and Chad Jones used to...

Chad Jones
He threw his body on the line and hit absolutely fearlessly with reckless abandon. I still remember the Arky receiver that he nearly decapitated.
In today's game, he'd literally be flagged for every single hit he made.

Sampah scouts all agree, “he likes to hit” and we need that from our LB’s a la Devon White

Sampah is one of the most overlooked guys in this class. He's going to be a badass for us.

Against Joe Adams on the goal line to prevent a td. I remember that hit like it was yesterday. They both struggled to get to their feet after that hit. For as small as Joe Adams was that dude was a dog. CJ3 was my favorite player when I was at LSU from 08-11. The Patrick Peterson windmill Jones punt return is still one of my favorite plays.

quote:Yep. Head across the bow isn’t being taught as much. Lots of youth, hs, and college programs are teaching rugby tackling. Delpit was a master at it until this year. (Not saying LSU teaches rugby style). Basically your head goes behind the runner and you impact with your chest and wrap around the thighs/knees. It takes the head out of it.... fwiw

He’s a 5 star player. I don’t think he is being overlooked

He committed out of nowhere and has stayed quiet ever since. Its typical for this scenario to play out for guys who commit early that don't flirt with other schools to sort of be forgotten about.
