Playing for Coach O vs. Saban

My daughter attended and graduated from LSU from 2004 to 2008 and had a few classes with guys on the team who actually played (Bowe, Doucett, Davis, etc) and she said that they almost all agreed they were happy to see Saban leave becuase it was no fun at all to play for him. Said, you havd to play looking over your shoulder becuase if you made a mistake.......
Come forward to last week, it just doesn't look like the Bama players have enthusiasm and enjoyment compared to LSU?? Has "The Process" gotten old and kids aren't buying into it or what??

was on a flight with Damion Square a few years ago when he played for Bama. I asked him about Saban and he said everyone hated him. The only reason they go play for him is they know he is the best at preparing them for the NFL.

I do not care for saban at all. I think he has some major control issues but Bowe just came out and said saban made him the man he is today.
He like most coaches did have favorites and like most coaches some players liked him and some did not.

The man has won 6 national championships and you’re here talking that he’s no fun

But I can also see him saying the things the OP said he said when he played for him as a young man.
You don’t realize how much a coach or parent being tough on you helps you in the future at the time it is happening. I never played college football but my high school coach was a Saban type discipline guy and I didn’t realize it at the time but I still use some values that he taught me a lot of years ago now and once you stopped playing for him he was your best friend. My dad was the same way. At the time it sucks but now that I am a grown man I realize what and why they did what they did.

Two different styles for different types of players.
Some will respect the process because they know they'll have a shot at the NFL playing for a perfectionist.
Then others thrive on emotions and choke under pressure to be perfect.
I think we're seeing that both are successful. CEO is finally doing what I thought he'd do from the beginning. Surround himself with coordinators who do a good job so that he can focus on big picture. (This is not saying that he hasnt been trying to get there... I think Alleva screwed him over with the "we need a big name OC hire")

I very seriously doubt these players were saying this to some random chick in a college class. Maybe your daughter was hanging out with the players a little more than just in the classroom, if you catch my drift, they would have been a little more loose with their lips. I don't buy it though.

Know 2 guys who played for Saban- one at LSU (03/04) and one at Bama.
Both loved playing for him.
A guy I work with son signed with LSU/Miles. He said Miles was a good guy but goofy as hell

Saban has a high standard. I don’t understand the hate.
Watch one of his leadership talks on YouTube. Mediocre people don’t like working with high achievers. Some players don’t belong on the bus, but you have to field a team each week.
Lsu is pumped because they are used to being the underdog.
Bama is seeing that even if you give 100%, you’re not guaranteed success.

You are dead wrong on this and the implication it suggests. I was tyring to make a valid point without a smartass reply like yours.

I was making a point as well. My point is, I don't think players will just openly shite on their coach to every tom, dick, and Harry sitting in their class.

Saban is an arsehole. His best coaching ability is to turn a losing team around.
Discipline, coaching, and game management that becomes recruiting.
Toledo was 6-5 in 1988 and 89. 1990 Saban 9-2. Although he passed on Urban Meyer as an assistant coach.
Michigan State prior 5–6, 6–6, and 5–6 and on NCAA sanctions. Nick 6–5–1, 6–6, and 7–5. The 6-6 with an upset of #1 OU. Then 1999 9-2 with wins over Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. Jump to LSU for 2000.
LSU prior 3-8 and 4-7. Nick 8-4, 10-3, 8-5, 13-1 NC, 9-3. He established LSU as a national power house but most importantly a top recruiting school.
A1abama same. He became a media star and the talent conveyor belt began.
But......
O is a recruiting demon, an inspirational coach, a developer of talent and the first person to threaten Bama dominance of the West since Johnny Football.
Predictions for what it’s worth:
1- O will complete head to head with Saban for talent. This should allow him to complete on the field. And talent will get to choose between Nick Satan the arsehole disciplinarian teacher of NFL players, and O the inspirational teacher of NFL players.
2- Nick will not retire. Football comes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in his life. His last game coached will be the one just before death, stroke, or senility.
3- O will give him a real run and knock some of Nick’s invincibility luster off.
4- Other SEC teams will become more competitive with Nick and O. The era of complete Nick SEC dominance is coming to an end with the Clemson/LSU losses.
5- Saban will win future Natties but the 6 in 14 years streak is over.
6- Nick will continue to be an arsehole.
Thank you Coach O!

It has been repeated before that Bama players admit fun is not a value promoted as motivation to play. Some have said they have no fun at all. It is what it is.

That just shows how much you know. I had classes with many football players in college and those kids love to talk about stuff they shouldn’t. All you have to do is look at the video from the locker room post Bama to see what they think about. You are too busy trying to put down a man’s family that all you do is show your ignorance and lack of class.

He’s a drill sergeant. Nothing wrong with that. It’s not fun but it makes you work hard and I bet players learn a thing or two about themselves and hard work and take that with them(along with the newfound mental issues).
That being said, it sure seems like LSU players are just out there having fun.

I had class with several football players in early 2001. They all loved Saban.

Skyler Green hated les miles and cheered for Saban when Bama played for LSU. Each coaching era are going to have players who loved or hated a coach and picks the old or new coach.
