Vol blue shirt question

Are any of our current commits eligible for a blue shirt?

You can’t take an official visit if you are going to blue shirt

Anyone that WOULD greyshirt or blueshirt is a player that isn’t good enough.
We are in a position to turn away 4 stars, yet you want to kick the can down the road and possibly have to turn one away next year because you want to sign 30 this year?
It’s stupid. The bill comes due at some point.

Blue shirting requires both:
1. No official visit
2. No in person, arranged, off campus meeting with a coach
I would think the 2nd would be very difficult to satisfy

blue shirt
Since the new signing rules were implemented, blue shirt isn't a thing in football. Recruited or non recruited, it doesn't matter. An athlete could walk on in the fall, receive a scholarship in the spring and count towards the 2021 numbers, or he could grey shirt and count towards the 2021 numbers. A new comer can't receive a scholarship in the fall once the 25 signee limit has been reached.

Blueshirting is incredibly difficult.
As others mentioned no visits, contact, etc.
But it is more than that- it is intended for a fully un-recruited player, in any shape form or fashion.
Got a direct mail- recruited.
Attended a camp, even at your own expense- recruited.
Told Coach A that Coach B expressed interest- recruited.
There's only 2 areas where I see it applying in today's game at this level of football:
1. A family member/legend where dad made sure that son was going to his alma mater and ensured there was no contact. AU couldn't even blueshirt Nix... why? Because pops is a booster and that constituted contact and was considered recruited.
2. A foreign born student who just shows up out of nowhere with some special skill. Think the movies and/or kickers coming from the intramural soccer team.

Wasn't this Gordon's son directly recruited by Steve Ensminger? Ended up as a walk-on with no issue.

We’re not talking about walk-ons. Blue shirts are on scholarship, it just counts against the next year’s numbers.

I'm telling you the new strategy is to recruit an army and 3 and 4 star walk ons that have rich parents haha.

I should add that in this context, scholarship means athletic scholarship. You have a little more flexibility with academic scholarships.

isn't grey shirt really a virtual term. If such a person enrolls in school but has no athletic scholarrship in the year of entrance are they any different than other entering students? There is no binding connection to the team or vice versa. The intent may be there all along to join the team in the spring or fall, but the same might exist for another student , lets say a sprinter who always wondered if he could play football and decides to try to walk on .

A grey shirt is really about delaying the start of your eligibility clock and to do that, he can't be enrolled full time. In the majority of cases, he wouldn't enroll until the spring, but he could pay his way as a part time student. If he did, he couldn't be part of the team in any way. The alternative is pay your way full time and walk on the team, but your eligibility clock starts.

This is not true and kind of dramatic. Some of these kids WANT to come to LSU. If they have the means to pay their way for a year, they could. Also, I’d be more worried about the 85 man limit next year. They need to bump it to 100. Having a 25/year limit is stupid if you can’t sign them all.

If one sport is football no matter wwhat thhe counts agaisn the football yearly and overall limits.
Thank Bear Bryant for that . In the days vefore stringent number limits there were a number of Tide football players on swimming, golf and tennis scholarships. Some ere just stockpiled so they did not play for rivals.
