Pokemon Sword/Shield and the Pokedex debacle

Just wanted to share my thoughts.
I'm a big pokemon fan. Been playing since Red/Blue. I'm also a competitive player (Smogon, Showdown, etc.). I'm even considering going into VGC with Sword and Shield. I going to buy the games because I love the series. But I find Game Freaks excuses pathetic. Especially when they used the "graphical upgrade" defense for models that are literally upscale 3DS models. Super lazy is an understatement.
And the cuts are WAY more than expected. I expected 100-200. But they cut over 478 out 809 already established pokemon.
I dont really like the reduced Pokedex for a couple of reasons. One being that understand every pokemon is someone's favorite. But a more pressing concerns are as follows.
1) meta manipulation
This is a way to hit the reset button on t¹he past 2 generations of Pokemon battling. Specifically Mega Evolution and Z moves. I'm assuming those are being removed in lieu of the gigantamax (Kaiju mechanic as I see it).
2) Give them an inch...
This is a segway into every generation being a selective choice of pokemon. Casual players won't care, and that's their choice. But it limits my options as a consumer on what teams I want to run, etc.
Again, I understand why they needed to make certain changes, but I can acknowledge that some of them were unnecessary (and yes certain meta relevant pokemon were also cut).
UPDATE 11/12/2019: I just found out that 144 moves have been removed. Including Hidden Power.
It's already known Z moves and Megas are gone. I'm actually okay with it becomes it will put battles back into focus on team makeup rather than supporting a boss pokemon.

it's inexcusable. no one with the resources at their disposal should be doing shite like this. they are no better than EA, activision, etc

I read that, kind of pissed. Esp for competition.

I just don't understand how doing this benefits them in any way.

They went ham on Gen 1 and Gen 2. I’d like to hear how they decided which Pokémon to cut and which to leave.

Gamefreak clearly doesn't want to make Pokemon anymore. Because the ownership of the franchise is so nebulous, I don't know if Nintendo can just put another team on it, but they should if possible.
It wouldn't be that difficult.

I’m bummed because initially it seemed like they were taking out legendaries and overused competitive Pokémon. Over half the dex? Really really lame.
It was also stated that each Pokemon was going to receive extra attention (battle and idle animations). Not sure there has been any changes here.

You forgot about forced party XP share that is not able to be turned off. Enough to make me not buy the game.
I can understand if you need to cut some Pokémon. There's 800. But to cut the original starters? That's unforgivable.

I am a big Pokemon fan, but the games(the main quest portion) have been shite since Black/White. Black/White was the last good installment.
Since then you had X/Y which was disappointing and the Sun/Moon which seemed to double down on everything that made Pokemon X/Y shitty.
Here's the deal, I don't give a flying frick about story in a Pokemon game. Red/Blue and Gold/Silver had a minimal story, if a story at all, and they were still great games. Because it was all about the gameplay - catching, battling, leveling up, getting badges, beating the Elite 4. All of the development resources were put into the gameplay
X/Y and Sun/Moon seemed to put all the games resources into the story and other worthless shite like Poke Amie. Sun/Moon was especially bad as all the cutscenes made the game molasses slow and a chore to play. I didn't even end up finishing Sun/Moon - I couldn't do it anymore and was bored to tears. I could never imagine replaying it
If GameFreak can get back to what makes the games good(gameplay) and focus all the resources on that, they might be able to make the next game reverse all this bad publicity. The franchise has so much potential that has not been tapped and GameFreak continues to waste it.
Removing Pokemon isnt even that big of a deal for me, it was bound to happen eventually, but you can tell it was done because they are lazy. Had they just channeled the resources saved by taking Pokemon out into other gameplay improvements, that would have been fine, but they didn't even do that.

The smaller pokedex doesn't bother me. Hell I wouldn't mind a game with none of the pokemon from the previous games. I'm sad because ever since I was a kid I've always wanted a pokemon game on a strong console. It's just sad that this game looks like a dumbed down 3ds game. You have move animations that still look like crap and npcs don't even talk. I always loved doing nuzlocke runs but I don't even know if that's possible on this game.

Does anyone have a good image/graphical list of which Gen1 Pokemon are included in the game?
Is there any difference in Gen1 Pokemon on Sword vs Shield? Idk which to buy atm.

I don’t like the reduced Pokédex at all.
I don’t mind not being able to catch everything in one game, but I’d like to be able to try and get everything in one/two generations on one game cartridge.

Look idk about competitive stuff but this was my favorite Pokémon game ever probably. Certainly the best since HGSS. Thoroughly enjoyed.
