Rian Johnson doubling down on the original reception to Empire Strikes Back

He claims to have been disappointed with Empire when it was first released in 1980, and believes the vast majority of Star Wars fans were disappointed with it as well. In fact, Rian Johnson claims it wasn't until the mid-90s that Empire's reputation as "the best Star Wars film" was finally solidified.
He's backed up by such publications as Cinema Blend, who try to paint a retroactive picture of disappointment when the film was first released to general audiences. Here's the problem with that line of thinking though....it's absolute bullshite.
The Empire Strikes Back was the overwhelming box office champion for 1980, it won the People's Choice Award for best film of the year (confirming its popularity with mainstream audiences), and was re-released in theaters THREE times before Return of the Jedi's release in 1983. Adjusted for inflation, it's the 13th highest grossing film of all-time.
Here's a good video breakdown of everything I just said:
Rian Johnson Still Doesn't Understand Star Wars

No one will ever think that Star Wars:SWJ is a good movie. It was just a poor, disorganized mess of a movie that crippled on 40 years of Star Wars lore and rules.

SJW shite aside, it's just a convoluted nonsensical mess of a movie.

So the board is really still doing this? jfc.

And you're still white knighting in every thread.

I can ignore or even not notice SJW stuff.
The Last Jedi is just a poorly made and written movie.

White knighting? Lol. I don’t give a frick about Star Wars, but you cünts are still melting about a movie that came out almost 2 years ago.

I can track the release date of Star Wars movies just by following the melts here.

I was PUMPED for return after seeing Empire in theaters. I had Lando action figures, Dagobah Luke, a big arse AT-AT and all kinds of shite. I had a playcenter that you dropped an action figure Han, and a Carbonite Han popped up.
There was TREMENDOUS excitement for Return after Empire. I was moderately excited for Revenge of the Sith.
I may catch Rise of the Skywalkers on a streamer, if there is nothing else on.

So much for all those others she supposedly loved...

People wouldn't still be talking about the movie if it wasn't for two things.
1. It was historically bad considering how excited people were to see it.
2. That a lot of people involved with the movie are STILL trying to sell us on the fact that the movie wasn't a complete piece of garbage.
