How long do both Uber and Lyft stay in existence doing the same thing?

Seems like one would eventually go by the wayside, since most drivers these days seem to be "working" for both.

Is there any logical reason for both to exist? Do they act as a sort of "check" on each other for pricing purposes?

If one bows out, which one survives?

Aren't there several cab companies in any given big city?

Plenty of duopolies out there

The biggest threat is their own business models haven't been shown to be able to turn a profit, but that was true of Amazon for a long time.

Interesting thought, but I don’t see a reason they both can’t exist, look at how many pizza places there are for example. Also McDonald’s and Burger King.

Yeah, I agree. That seems a possibility too.

Maybe Lyft stays in business by allowing less rape.

Well this is a pretty severe misunderstanding of business in general.

How do any competing brands stay in business?

It’s like you don’t even understand the free market.

have you never been to a city with 2 different grocery stores? Or a corner with 2 different gas stations?

Nah. It's sort of a unique situation. They're basically the same exact "product," especially with so many drivers doing both. I get the Pepsi/Coke parallel, but I don't think it's truly analogous in that regard.

Sure, you can always point to something tangibly different about each.

Have you never queried others in less contorted phraseology?
