And I got some really good advice years ago when looking into a business venture:
You gotta be a "good guy" to be a con man
You gotta be a "good guy" to be a con man

Post of the year.
We could give every teacher a $10,000 raise immediately if we had one district per county.
The best proposal I have seen is the "SuperDistrict" proposal. It centers K-12 school districts around the community colleges. District offices are housed at community colleges, and those CC have academic and trade initiatives throughout their district.
15 districts. 15 superintendents. Some associate/assistant superintendents. A small staff of accountants, data, IT, etc. per district. Would save the state hundreds of millions of dollars. In all honestly, you could combine Coahoma with Delta and Meridian with East Central and have 13 districts.
Instead we have some counties with 5-6 districts and full staffs for each.

Thank You for showing it so clearly.
How can these teachers not see that they are being hoodwinked (HOODwinked?) by their own superintendents? It's shameful

I have fought this battle for years in this state. We have too many people on the dole. These school districts are employment agencies for someones family member or friend. Why do you think they fought going to appointed superintendents so much.
For those outside MS, until this year, superintendents were ELECTED officials. In the larger districts, this rarely caused a problem, but this is how it worked in most of the 151 school districts.
Jim Bob the county supervisor that barely graduated high school runs for superintendent against Shirley, the church lady and Susan, the elementary principal.
Jim Bob has political experience and wins easily. He forces Susan out because how dare she run against him.
Jim Bob takes a $150k salary. He hires his family and friends at high salaried positions like Transportation Director (Billy knows how to drive a bus), Nutrition Director (my wife's sister works out), etc.
Jim Bob and his friends make bank while doing nothing for the school except making sure the football team is competitive. Students are failing? We'll work on that. The Yellowjackets went 4-6? Time for a change!
4 years pass and the school is still shitty. Its time for an election. Some parents want a principal to run. Jim Bob holds a meeting and basically reminds them of what happened to Susan.
Jim Bob runs unopposed. The cycle continues.

You nailed it.
And places like Yazoo County have 2 separate Districts operating just like this. The whole county is broke as a joke and they're paying for 2 separate school fiefdoms

Yep. The boards would be elected and representative of the whole district and would hire the superintendent.

If that's the best they got going, that's too bad.
Just because he's a DA doesn't mean he's a good leader and decision maker. Probably means just the opposite. Bossy. Pushy. Disingenuous. IMHO

People rag on Mississippi but in my 1-1/2 years as a resident it is apparent that way more funds go into schools and highways than LA. Also in our county they don’t play around those construction crews get shite done. Half my property tax bill goes to the school district and both campuses have major improvements taking place.

re’s way more than 82 school districts in MS. Matter of fact, according to a quick google search, there’s 151 school districts in MS. Talk about top heavy!
You are exactly right and the supervisors and staff at central office are a huge drain on the state’s education budget. Years ago there was an attempt to consolidate some of the districts, but the education lobby with their cries of racism put an end to it.

Lets give credit where its due. There were 152. Two school districts in Bolivar County consolidated to make 151. Now there are only 5 districts in that small Delta county.

The problem with Mississippi schools is not funding. We have plenty of money to fully fund education. But anytime anything is done that would put any pressure on a "black" school district, racism is cried and we take a step backward.
There are predominantly black districts that are doing well. And there are some that need their leaders to perp walk.
Hazlehurst school district had administrators and board members using district credit cards at casinos and then paying the bills with taxpayer money.
Coahoma had a school go from F to A in test scores in one year. The district was lauded. The principal and superintendent were on Good Morning America. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants were given to the school. Turns out that the principal instructed the teachers to change the answers after the students left.
Throwing more money at this is not the solution. We need to hold these schools accountable. Ive said for years that one of the best ways to get parents to care academically is strip athletic teams from being able to compete in the postseason if the school is failing academically.

anc I can see that. I am in a bubble as my kids school district is 97% white and has been great. Faculty care and are awesome at their jobs. Never thought my kids would be so happy in a public school. We were paying for catholic school in the Houma area before moving.

Hood will be the first D I ever vote for. frick Tate.
I understand your revulsion over Tate Reeves but take it from us here in Louisiana dealing with John Bel Edwards and his tax and spend and whoring out the trial lawyers bullshite, this is something you should not do.
I've looked into Jim Hood and he has every indication that he is going to turn out just like JBE.
Vote against that.
There is no guarantee that he will be safely defeated by a republican you can support in 2023. If you vote for Hood and he gets elected, very strong chance he will be Governor for 8 years and no telling what he will do.

Well golly gee... now that you say that... I’ll vote for Hood who doled out major trial litigation to his friends... 2 major attorneys who are now disbarred and saw prison time over judicial bribery.. instead of doing it through the AG office. In result it made his friends rich when the state could have seen more of that money. Mind made up! Good job!
