If Hayes wasn’t lost on the defensive side...

I think he would get some minutes. Kid has the talent, just needs some experience. He looked great running the floor.

fricking what big isnt lost on defense?

He will be very good once he gains basketball IQ/experience. He’s so incredibly gifted athletically in terms of his body control with that length/speed combo.

If this team was playing well defensively, then yeah he'd need to stay on the bench.
But NOBODY on the team looks good defensively right now. Let the kid play. F-it

Can our defense really get any worse?
At what point do you just let him learn on the floor?
Melli's defense was atrocious tonight, and he regularly gets minutes at the 5.

He really will Nofox.
He is exactly what we need from our 5 on offense. Every play should involve him picking and rolling to the basket. It creates space for shooters and for Zion to get his head of steam.
Once both Hayes and NAW get more experience and better IQ, which I have no doubt they will (and even more so with a good coach once a uncle Alroy is gone), they will reek havoc on the league.
Our future best roster will be NAW/Hart/Zion/Ingram/Hayes

Luckily for Hayes there’s a low bar of competition for him to get minutes...,

Yeah I don’t care if he is lost or whatever people are claiming. At least he hustles on every play which is more you can say about some of these bums. Players with high energy and hustle bring value to your team, especially this team, but gentry will continue to bench him and bring Melli in over him

Hayes isn’t close to Favors or Jah on either side of the court.

Yes but neither comes close to his upside.

I disagree to an extent.
Jah is quite frankly an uber talented offensive player.
He’s crossing guys up and making sweet passes, to go along with his elite post game.
If he continues his upward trend, he’s a valuable contributor on a winning team.
Hayes is raw and an elite defensive prospect. He could develop a deep shot, but you can’t run sets through him.
Hayes is 2 years away.

In our offense, Hayes is without a doubt the best offensive center for us. Jah is a better offensive center if you're looking to hand him the ball and go to work, which is great if you have a shitty 2nd string that can't create for themselves.
Favors has nothing offensively.
Defensively, Favors is better when it comes to a team defense aspect b/c he's smarter, but he looked terrible out on the perimeter. He's defended the rim great, but teams figured that out real quick and brought him to the 3 point line and he becomes almost unplayable with our defensive scheme.
I have no problem with teams jacking up rainbow threes over Hayes when he switches onto them like he did last night.
Hayes is going to be 10x's better than both of them on both sides of the court soon. He'll only get there with experience.

Soon is stretching it. He’s at least a year away.

Jah is horrible on defense. Im not saying Hayes is better because I dont know yet, but he cant be much worse.

I agree Jah is bad on defense.
He’s actually not terrible , but he lacks lateral quickness. When he’s in position he’s fine.
What I meant is he’s nowhere close to Jah offensively nor Favors defensively.

And we expected that. I thought he needed to play in the G-league to get his experience, but he'd be much better served taking his lumps this season with the team. He'll figure it out. He's 19. I think if you played him consistently, by the time 2020 comes around, he'll easily be better than both Favors and Okafor.
What he needs to work on is not something you'd work on in the offseason, like a post move or extending your shooting range, or dribbling.
He simply needs to learn how to play at the speeds of the NBA game, rebounding against stronger people, and better decision making defensively.

This is the #1 reason that he isn't playing over Okafor and Favors. He just needs to spend an offseason lifting, and he's going to be elite.
Disclaimer: I was on a plane last night and couldn't watch the game.

He needs to go on a Food tour around New Orleans every day year round

The kid is extremely raw. A year in the weight room and learning the game will do wonders. I was glad to see him get some good minutes, he will need plenty. At some point, i hope we can move him down to the G-League and let him play a ton. I worry that he will have a ton of DNPs and won't get to see many minutes.
