Since 1966 they issue two Heisman Trophies. One to the player and replica to the school. Steve Spurrier is the one who started the tradition.

I thought LSU had one on display for Cannon. I guess I was wrong.

They do. Either LSU had a replica made or or the committee may have sent replicas to all schools of the players that won it prior to Spurrier. The guy after him is who was the first to be issued two.
Spurrier gave his to the school and the student government raised money to have a replica made for Spurrier. Since then the Heisman people started giving two.
