Any of you NELA folks remember 91.1 back in the day?

Best radio station ever imo. Solid college indie rock, but then one day they morphed from that into 91.X and started playing crappy stuff like Sum 41 to I guess expand their listening base and stopped playing new/underground/interesting stuff.

Back in high school that station is the biggest influence on my music tastes and big impact on me in general. Got me into Modest Mouse, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Built to Spill, Yo La Tengo, etc as well as tons of other stuff.

Really sad they went away, it was a cultural loss for Monroe for sure. They had some great dj's too, they just seemed like fun college kids and didn’t oversell their shite like most radio hosts tend to do who are obnoxious and loud .

What sparked me even thinking about it was listening to some Big Wreck just now and I remember it coming on there

From 90-00 I would say it was the greatest station I have ever listened to. It was just that great. Something like that will never happen again.

Not the same thing. 91.X is nowhere near as good

Worked there from late '90 to '93. It was great and it a bit of transition when we changed frequencies from 88.7 to 91.1. Some had the temptation to incorporate 911 into the new frequency or slogan but glad it didn't

I discovered so many bands in high school on 91.1. It actually morphed my life a little bit. I loved it.

We could pick it up in SE Arkansas and it was a pre set in every truck I had until it was gone.
