Watching the field level highlights, and it showed what the ref was looking at when Jefferson hot horse collared.

IOW, the ref was staring straight at the tackle. Why the no call? Is that not a horse collar tackle?

He stepped out of bounds prior to the horse collar.

Like when Fulton was called for excessive celebration after an interception that didn’t count?

Does that matter if he stepped out before the illegal tackle? Penalizing horse collar tackles seem to be for safety purposes. I think if there was head to head contact after a player steps out targeting would still be called and enforced for safety reasons.

So if a play is whistled dead can you face mask a guy to the ground?

The horse collar tackle is in the rule book for player safety, why does stepping out of bounds make it legal?

If he stepped out of bounds, shouldn't it be a late hit then?

Yeah, that was a pretty bad miss, said so when it happened. Even the crowd knew it. The only thing I can think of is that Jefferson didn't go that direction and land on his back. But even then, the rule states

quote:

All players are prohibited from grabbing the inside back collar of the shoulder pads or jersey, the area, or the inside collar of the side of the shoulder pads or jersey, and immediately pulling the ball carrier down.

It says nothing about what way the ball carrier has to travel when going down, just that grabbing someone in that specific area to make a tackle is illegal. So bad no-call.

That was bad but the most damaging call of the night was the no call hold on Shelvin in their end zone. That was a safety and change of possession without the obvious holding. Talk about a game changing missed call.

Sad that there were multiple no-calls to choose from. LSU had to beat two opponents in one night- Florida, and the refs.

It was a bad no-call.
Honestly, though they had them on both sides.
At least they didn’t take over or didn’t determine the game - thank God.

I am wondering why no safety on grounding with that play. Inside the tackle box, thrown away out of bounds.

As a sports bettor I hate saying this but the refs knew the spread and called the game accordingly...they did a shitty job

We’ll keep that in mind.

New rule: Play is dead, personal fouls are ok!

You know, let's be real here, if Burrow got hit in the same place Trask got hit would you think it was a bad call? If you do, then carry on.

I'm not going to bitch and cry about the officiating but it was hot garbage. I will say what they did do is let both teams play.
