you are absolutely correct. And sadly, who would do far worse than that as well.

But that is not person who is in recovery, who has dealt with the demons in their past.

That is not a description of the people that I am referring to, that I know personally.

(I want to sort of throw this out there but feel a little unsettled about it in this thread.)

Nacan is the "generic" version of Naloxone, right? and costs like $150 per use I think

Their are always outliers man. Sucks that that happens, but it is no reason to stop trying to save people's lives.

Here's the thing, when you administer narcan you are about to send that person into an immediate and painful withdraw, so you do need to be prepared for that. But killing the person that administered it to you is not the norm and you probably couldn't find another instance of this

you are correct there. the odds are not in their favor. not at all. and if you got to know an addict, you'd likely find that in most cases, the odds were never in their favor to begin with- long before their addiction.

I don't romanticize addiction, but I do see a person before I see their addiction now. I didn't always, but I do now.

it’s the doctors and drug manufacturers fault
—————————————————————
For the most part it was not doctors fault,of course there was a few doctors that were unethical and crooked, ordering drugs inappropriately for the money.
If anyone was responsible besides drug companies it was Joint Commission For Accreditation. They were very much in collusion with the drug companies in pushing opioids. They started huge campaign to alleviate pain at all costs. They pounded medical professionals to basically give pain meds to anyone that wanted them. They started crap about pain as “5th vital sign”.,”pain is what the patient says it is”.A lot of the material they presented as “pain control education” material was written byPerdue Pharmaceuticals.
Our hospital had “clipboard”nurse that went around everyday monitoring our charts for JCAH compliance, one of the things she looked for was that we were following JCAH guidelines for pain control. She would actually wake patients up and asked them if they’re pain was being addressed.Woe be it to any nurse or Dr. if the patient said they were having pain that wasn’t being addressed,no matter how comfortable patient appeared or what their vital signs reflected.
JCAH is one of those entities that was started for a good reason but has gotten too powerful and have piled regulations upon regulations to the point they are oppressive and detrimental to patient care.
It’s very easy to believe that JCAH was being paid off by Perdue Pharmaceuticals to push opioids,West Virginia is suing them in addition to the drug companies.
If physicians as a whole are at any blame for all this opioid mess,it is the fact that doctors are notoriously bad at sanctioning their peers for poor or dangerous practice. In a medical community it was pretty well known who were the drug pushing doctors.
To be fair nurses aren’t much better at peer review and discipline.

Well if Narcan is bad cause it saves junkies, is insulin bad cause it saves diabetics? Are stints and statin drugs bad cause they save heart patients?

Why save anyone since the majority of health problems are self created?

I would argue heroin, oxycontin and fentanyl are a bit worse than narcan.

You're saying you would rather an addict just kill themself rather than having a chance of recovery. That's some Mein Kampf type ideology

I don't know about you but I've never had a diabetic or heart attack victim steal my belongings for their insulin or statin fix
