those kids didn’t require ac in every room - their parents and lawmakers their parents age or more did. and the days of the lil red schoolhouse are gone, sorry grampa. classes are “computerized” (lulz) as they should be

I’m not upset with how we got to where we are. What is upsetting is the digging heels of a dying generation that refuses to see the error of their ways or any propensity to change.

I’m also continually shocked by how the older generation poop-poo’s reuse and recycling. Earlier generations practiced a zero-waste lifestyle out of necessity. Some religions even encourage good stewardship of resources, whether it’s money or the planet. So, I’m not sure I understand where the hostility comes from, unless the deniers have completely bought into the party line of big corporations and political lobbists.

So you're not going to address the issue.

How do force China and India to crash their economies and curb their emissions? War?

China is actually already underway with phasing out combustion engines. In many places they already have. Their transportation systems are much more high tech and many of them also emission free. Additionally, many more in their population walk and bike places than here in the US.

LINK

We are a massive polluter and have no such plans here. We need to focus on ourselves first. Rather, we are going backwards in time, as we have a president that has hard ons for any destructive industry.

Yes, China has it's own issues, but it also signed the Paris agreement, committing to phasing out fossil fuels, something that the US didn't do. If we don't act because "the others" didn't either, we achieve nothing. Wouldn't it be nice to act regardless and become a role model to the world?

Let me give you an example. I haven't looked at the data in the last year or so, but the government was subsidizing solar panels a few years back. Do you know why the government subsidized solar panels? Because they did not provide a good cost-benefit ratio to the consumer.

The cost of manufacturing and installing solar panels, along with their lifespan, exceeded the cost on energy savings they would provide. If you would look at the value of the total kWh generated by the panel during it's lifetime, it was less than the cost of the panel. You would LOSE MONEY installing solar panels. So the government was paying like $10-30k to help offset the costs to encourage people to switch.

Regardless who's paying for the panels (a consumer or tax payer dollars) they are not as efficient as conventional methods for electricity.

Kinda hilarious how this thread turned into a “blame old people we do t have any responsibility for it”. Which... kinda proves the authors point about taking responsibility for ones own actions.

Climate change hacks don’t really want to make sacrifices. They just want to vote for taxes, protest, and “raise awareness”.

The only bigger hypocrites are the statue protestors that drive to protest “symbols of hate” in their VWs and Audis.

Actually those who believe in this movement want to and do make sacrifices, all the time!!

And they are striking now because the older generation, that controls the switches, isn’t doing anything about it.

And now I’m being “schooled” on why renewable energy isn’t viable even though the technology continues to change and get more efficient and absolutely is viable if that same decision making body could see the long term benefit for the future of our society.

What "is happening to the planet"?

Seriously?

Our coral reefs are dying because of our chemical runoff.

We have microplastic in rivers and springs where our drinking water comes from.

Wildlife is poisoned and killed by man made plastic also.

Deforestation and big Ag are destroying habitats.

Shall I go on?

Is there an acceptable amount of deforestation and destruction of wildlife habitats?

Thats nice.

What percentage of these "environmental" evangelists are living any differently than they were 20 years ago.

*or less if they are younger?*

What if I told you renewable energy will soon be the economical choice? Will you continue to hold onto fossil fuels then?

First off they are not fossil fuels. Oil does not come from a fossil

Secondly, how will you make millions of tons of plastic, textiles and other goods that depend on oil?

Where will you make nylon and polyester?

All that is bullshiit and are simply natural cycles that have proven, over the years, to be inconsequential in the big picture of the planet and human life.
Change my mind.

Do you use HVAC? Take hot showers? Eat sushi? Buy flowers? Travel internationally? Eat food raise on any type of farm? Use a computer? If you do any of the above you don’t really make any significant sacrifices.

”change” doesn’t equal viability.

How is malinvestment a benefit to anyone?
