DC statehood

There's no chance in hell that DC becomes a state in my lifetime. Interesting article here.
I get the taxation-without-representation argument. But I have yet to see anyone propose what seems to me to be the most obvious solution.
Give it back to Maryland..."retrocession."
That's exactly what happened in 1846. The District of Columbia was originally a rectangle, a portion of which was taken from Virginia. In 1846, Congress ceded the land that was originally taken from Virginia back to that state. DC could just become a part of Maryland again.
Another idea which seems to make a lot of sense was floated with the District of Columbia Voting Rights Restoration Act of 2004, which would have allowed District residents to vote in Maryland's congressional and Senate elections. That bill never made it out of committee.
So don't let anyone fool you...this isn't about representation at all....it's about adding two new and permanent Democratic Senators.

Would violate Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17, i.e., “the District Clause”.
You’d have to amend a fundamental part of the Constitution to make it happen. Never happen.

Like I said...at least not in my lifetime. The amendment process would never get off the ground.
Give them voting rights in Maryland would shut them up and would have zero effect on the Republicans.

this would result in Maryland getting (1) additional congressional delegate

I don’t, there’s a very legitimate fundamental reason why dc should not have any federal representation. Dc exists for one purpose, so the federal seat is not part of a state. You don’t like it, leave.

Maybe.
According to current estimates, MD has a population of 6,042,718.
DC has a population of 702,455
That might edge them ahead of Indiana.
Unless the murder rate in Baltimore continues to climb.

DC has a non voting representative in Congress. Just like Puerto Rico, Guam, and the other territories.

Under the current proposal, DC would still exist, therefore you still have your federal seat outlined in the constitution... The parts of the district were people actually live would become the 51st state and the Nat'l mall area would just be the official DC. All of this is constitutional and should happen.

Totally DOA before it even hits the floor.
The Democrats are wasting so much of the taxpayer money deliberating about things that will never happen in this lifetime as long as we have 3 branches of the government. Their radical ideas are being seen by people around the world now.
They need to give this crap up and find ways to support the people of the United States and actually do their job they were elected to do.

So then why not just give that portion back to MD and call the mall area DC. It doesn't have to be a new state, does it?

The Dems drag this up every two or three years going back to the 80s from my memory.

Here is an idea.
Have all the "residents" move out to the DC suburbs and then reestablish it as a federal district or property like a military base.
And then allow no one to establish residency there. People can live there if there is a reason to be there like the President or an elected member of Congress.

But then they don’t get two new Democrat senators.
What’s the point in moving the goalposts at all if you can’t get the whole 10 yards?

Wrong on all counts.
In fact, nova should be annexed into dc and stripped of representation
