Tom Pelissero
@TomPelissero
My understanding is 6-to-8 weeks is the minimum #Saints QB Drew Brees will miss because of the ligament damage in his thumb. All depends on the type of surgery he ends up having. That raises the possibility of placing him on IR, which would sideline him at least 8 weeks.

the bye week being 7 weeks away (week 9) will be a God send

Well, if this doesn't happen in the next 48 hours, then we are expecting Drew to be back after the bye.

Saw this. I think he is trying to sound awesome on the interwebz. Ligaments are usually 4-6. It certainly could be 8, but that is talking worst case scenario.

I don’t think it’s realistic to expect him to come back and be 100% comfortable with his thumb either. 6 weeks is probably when he can begin throwing a football again.

With the procedure that he appears to be getting, he should be able to begin throwing in 4 weeks.

What a clickbait tweet. No athlete has missed that long with this surgery. Baseball players were swinging bats withing 4 weeks.

GTFO with this shite.

That would be a damn quick recovery. I wonder if that’s without pain?

read the article on the surgeon and the procedure.

Hand is only immobilized for a few days and baseball players that have had this procedure were back with their club working within 4 weeks.

Probably a little longer for a QB. 7 weeks of recovery seems really reasonable, if this is the procedure he is getting.

My understanding is that he should begin rehab 2 weeks post surgery, so this is very likely actually. He'll be throwing again prior to this 6 week recovery.

He is going to undergo extensive pt on the injury but I’m telling you know do not expect him back until at best 8 weeks from now AND that is if the Saints are still in contention for the playoffs. If the Saints aren’t in contention then Drew will sit out the rest of the season.

I hope that isn't the case. He would 100% come back for another year if that's the case.

damn dude how many times have you done this surgery?

i generally dont trust people that can't spell the word "now" correctly when it comes to how long a surgery that they've never done is gonna take to rehab from

You can't say that.

If there is even a 10% chance that he could be back by then, it's worth keeping the roster spot open.
