Would the Saints be a good fit for Minkah Fitzpatrick if available?

The Dolphins, for some unexplained reason, were playing him as sort of an in the box safety in week one rather than at slot corner which he graded out as the best in the league last year. If he's one of several players wanting out with the team appearing to want to blow the entire thing up then the Saints should definitely look into it.

Saintswire

quote:

He’s a versatile player who can play anywhere on the field, but he’s at his best when defending the slot. In 2018, Fitzpatrick had the NFL’s best passer rating when playing slot corner (49.7), which he played 40% of the time. He spent the rest of his time at the boundary corner spot (30%), free safety (17%), and strong safety (3%), leading the Dolphins in defensive snaps played (944). He was the only player to get more time than linebacker Kiko Alonso, who the Saints acquired from the Dolphins earlier this month.

But Dolphins coaches pulled him and several other starters during their Week 1 blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He recorded 49 snaps against Baltimore and played in the slot on only 12 of them, and his coaches wouldn’t answer why they misused him. Dolphins defensive coordinator Patrick Graham would only reply, “We tried to do what was best for the team and deploy players in the right spots.”

Probably not. The Dolphins aren’t going to move on from him THAT early. Plus, CGJ, PRob and PJ are all slot guys.

If we make any trades it will likely be for a WR or a nice backup OT. That’s really our only holes. We are loaded at D.L. and with the trade for Alonso, the return of Robertson and Klein’s improved play, LB is pretty much shored up. TE, RB and the secondary have good depth. The only improvement that could really be made is a Nick Easton caliber player at Tackle and another WR

I don’t think we NEED any of those, yet. As long as Ginn stays healthy and we get Cook more involved we won’t really need another WR but I’d still like to see us make a play for a vet like Emmanuel Sanders later in the year

Miami officially making Minkah available.

The Dolphins have granted permission to DB Minkah Fitzpatrick to seek a trade, per @mortreport.

So you guys want him because our secondary is suspect, yet the Dolphins just made Lamar Jackson look like Peyton Manning and got burnt badly by a rookie receiver? Hmm okay then.

Minka's excellent as a slot corner. Trading for him would mean less PJ. Do it Loomis!

I would seriously look into acquiring FS/slot cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick away from the Miami Dolphins.
He’s like another coach on the field, excellent in coverage-he’s a tough dude in run support.
Also a leader and a mentally tough young man. He sees the train wreck in Miami.

He is an absolute get at this point if you’re all in for Lombardi

Dude is a really good player. I don't think the Saints have the capital to make a move for him though. They'd have to offer a player + pick and I don't think Miami is interested in players. They seem interested in completely gutting the roster while acquiring picks, and then just starting over with Tua, or whomever they target, next year.

I would trade PJ Williams and Apple for him in a heartbeat.

Looks like the Dolphins are wanting a 1st. The Saints won't do that and since the Dolphins already have the Saints 2nd next year, the most the Saints would offer is a 3rd. I don't think that gets it done.
