The Dead Don't Die

It never came to my local theaters, but it showed up on PPV the other day. Stars Bill Murray and Adam Driver, as well as Chloe Sevigny, Danny Glover, Tilda Swindon, Steve Buscemi, Rosie Perez, Selena Gomez, Sturgil Simpson, Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, and I'm sure others I'm forgetting...
I don't know what to make of this flick, but I'm not disliking it, lol...there's definitely a low-key droll vibe to it, almost like a rural, sleepier version of Zombieland. It'll probably not appease anyone expecting fast-paced action...but if you're willing to kick back on the sofa with a cold beverage and unwind, it's actually pretty entertaining IMO. If nothing else, the "awe, shucks"-type dialogue between Murray & Driver is good for a few chuckles.
Anyone else see it?

it was a spoof take on cheesy zombie flicks - and did it well. the wife and I really enjoyed it.

Oh yeah, it was a definite spoof. If Adam Driver's crack about the movie's theme song in the opening minutes didn't tip me off, then nothing would've!
It's just much more low-energy than typical zombie flicks, but that's why it has a certain charm to it. Biggest surprise was Tilda Swindon's character...she was simultaneously creepy and badass

Pretty much all of JJ’s films are like this. Haven’t even seen this one yet but plan to.

Had heard so many bad things about it that I purposely skipped it in theaters. Caught it a few weeks ago and was surprised with how much I liked it. Kind of a deadpan version of Night of the Living Dead. Very strange movie with the actors acknowledging they are in a movie a few times. But still, worth a watch for sure.
The director obviously had a lot of popular friends that owed him a favor.

I downloaded it and watched it last week. Thought it was extremely mediocre at best, was pretty disappointing.

Yeah, if I over-analyzed this movie, I'd probably end up talking myself into disliking it, because of how peculiar it is, lol...but I dunno, everyone who was in it sold their characters pretty hard, which is why I probably ended up enjoying it. Just the dry banter between Murray, Driver, and Sevigny (sp?) was worth it alone...

Just watched it. Jesus, what a pointless piece of shite.
Also, it's been proven that middle eastern interests fund entertainment in exchange for the anti-fracking message. This guy obviously cashed in.
Hollywood celebrities caught on hidden camera accepting money from "Middle Eastern oil interests"
Also, I think Cloe Sevigny needs to quit doing cocaine.
quote:This is what it wants to be, but just ends up being a boring clusterfrick of homages, plainly stated metaphors (are they still metaphors if you just say what they are?) and obvious, needless political bullshite. This director already sets a really low standard with his usual chopping broccoli bullshite, but damn.

This deserves a bump, I just watched it a few nights ago and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Largely because IMDB has it at 5.5 and Rotten Tomatoes has an audience score of 38%. And I'm not into Zombie movies at all so I'd been avoiding it. But with the cast:
well, why not?
I thought it was a really fun satire; though extremely dry and absurdist and thoughtful. And it got better on a second watch, especially some of the running gags and ideas behind the satire. Apparently it's not for everyone, given the poor ratings. My guess is that viewers were looking for an actual Zombie movie, or a Bill Murray comedy, or almost anything else. Definitely in my top 10 for 2019.

I liked this movie, but it isn't very good.
Was it a wild animal? Or several wild animals?

Watched it a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it enough. The acting in it was certainly interesting.

Never mind. I see that I've already replied in this thread.

Saw it on a plane, didn't enjoy it in that setting

I enjoyed it. I really liked how they had a Star Destroyer on Adam's key chain

I thought it was pretty bad..slow paced lack of any humor or horror I didn't get it

Just watched it.
Loved the humor.
Wish the store owner and Danny Glover lived longer.
Didnt like the ending.

Wife and I watched it last night. Very good cast. Was excited.
Other than Murray and Driver, all the other actors felt more like cameos, which is fine.
I'm a huge fan of slow interesting, funny, dry dialogue driven movies. That was probably my favorite part of this movie. Murray and Driver.
I thought this was going to be more of a straight up comedy. It was a bit gorey for my wife at parts you would assume as it being a zombie movie with hungry zombies...
Not a comedy, not a horror flick... something weirdly in between which almost works great.
A little political messaging sprinkled in.. ( just preparing you for the eye roll scenes)
Breaking the 4th wall felt wrong for this movie. Felt it didn't fit this movie.
Funniest scene to me was just Driver driving up to the diner in his mini-car all serious. That shite cracked me up. Then Cleo dispersing the 3 peoplr standing there. I thought the whole movie was going to be that kind of stuff.
I really wanted to like this this movie a lot. I like fun parodies, Bill and Adam, zombies.... should've been better but I'm not exactly sure how.. and that annoys me..
Just felt like something was missing in the movie.. The movie just feels like a dud while you're watching... hard to explain.
5.5/10
