Is there a quick way to verify if someone served in the military?

Everything I have found requires you to mail a formal request.

Well, that's it. Don't expect too much from your government.

If they say they were special forces unsolicited or "can't talk about that" when asked about specifics, they're lying.

It might help if you narrowed it down to a branch. Then folks that served in that branch might better assist you.

I have been trying to look up my dad's WWII Navy records for two years. I would like to know the dates he was on certain ships so I will know what battles he fought in in the Pacific. He started on a PT boat then transferred to the Intrepid, but I don't know the PT boat number or the time frame. I applied on line twice to receive this information and was told it would take 90 days. I started this process 2 years ago and I have yet to hear anything.

Government workers. Give it another 2 years.

Or pull and Andy Dufresne and wrote them every week.

Paper records. I can see why you wouldn't get far.

If it is for employment purposes, ask them for a copy of their DD-214. If it is to see if someone actually served, you’re prob. going to have to send in a request to HRC which can take some time.

You may be out of luck. They had a large fire some time ago that burned up a lot of personnel records. No joke... Hopefully your dads records are ok. If you have his DD214 it should tell you all you need to know.

There's a site called MilitaryPhony.com that has a report form.

Don't know how diligent they are. I doubt they look into every single guy who claims to be a Navy Seal to get laid.

A little bit of social engineering probably goes a long way here. What was your MOS? Oh, is that the one that's called 81 Bravo? Where'd you go to Basic? What was your rank? E-4... is that a Captain?
