Let go over Texas 2018 Football schedule

10 of their games were within a TD
L 29-34 @ Maryland
W 28-21 vs Tulsa
W 37-14 VS USC
W 31-16 VS TCU
W 19-14 @ K-State
W 48-45 vs Oklahoma
W 23-17 vs Baylor
L 35-38 @ Oklahoma State
L 41-42 vs West Virginia
W 41-34 @ Texas Tech
W 24-10 vs Iowa State
W 24-17 @ Kansas
L 27-39 Vs Oklahoma - Big 12 Championship
W 28-21 Vs UGA - Sugar Bowl
My takeaways:
BEST win - USC
WORST win - Kansas
BEST Loss - Oklahoma Big 12 Championship
WORST Loss - Maryland
That is one hell of a gauntlet these guys have to run through year in year out
They barely beat and had late game chances where they could have lost to: Tulsa, K-State, Baylor and Kansas
Hell even Texas Tech, (who was down 34-17 in the 4th quarter) came back and tied up the game with 2 minutes to go.
Their whole season culminated to a 7 point win over UGA (i will say that game was never as close as the final score said) to which they now believe that Texas football is....back?

Didn’t realize their defense gave up so many points last year.
Posted on 9/4/19 at 10:02 am to 225Tyga
But I thought they were built to stop it

Really? For the way I've seen/heard people talk about this one, I thought it was something like 42-14.

They've replaced a ton of starters from that team. This is pointless.

All their losses were close, with the worst being by 12 to an eventual playoff team. But on the flipside, they had too many close wins against what they probably consider inferior teams.
My take: their defense is typical B12... shite. And their offense can't be that good if they aren't blowing out those other shittier B12 defenses.
After all this is the conference that routinely has astounding QBs who win lots of games, put up huge numbers, win trophies and awards, get drafted high, and then go belly up in the NFL.

quote:Really, they're just built to try and slow it down, and outscore the other team. It's always been that way in the BIG12 since the turn of the century.

OU does the exact same thing. And they promise a new, revamped, strong defense right before they come out and let Houston score 30 on them.
I just hope our guys are prepared because BIG12 teams aren't afraid to score. If our guys show up unprepared, Ehlinger will make them pay. I know that's not what the board wants to hear but it's true.

It was 28-7 in the 4th when UGA scored a couple of TD's. Really the final should have been more like 28-14. UGA also handed UT 10 points with a bad snap on a punt and a fumble at their own 12.
I think if UGA doesn't make those two mistakes (back to back at that) it's a much closer game. Not saying Texas wouldn't have won - they were the better team, just saying it wouldn't have been full blowout.

This is one of my FEW concerns, that and these Big12 schools dont ever quit, no matter how many score they are down. Like you alluded to, they are never out of the game because of how their offenses are built.

wow good point, i added that to the OP

That is a good season for year 2 of a rebuild. They return talent, but lack experience.
The Tigers grind out a win this Saturday, unless Texas somehow jumps on them early and gets some breaks.
Also:
vs Oklahoma was probably a bigger win

correct, it was the bigger win, but i think the USC game was the better win

That's an absolutely brutal schedule if any of those teams were actually good anymore.

not only that, but their 3 best players, 2 on defense were sitting out for draft reasons... Georgia did not want to play in that game... no motivation at all... and I think that is huge... Texas does not want to play Georgia (or Us) right now...

I really don't think much of this matters when talking about this season.
Posted on 9/4/19 at 11:08 am to 225Tyga
how is their best win USC and not UGA or Oklahoma?

They're getting pub for 2 games: beating Oklahoma at home and beating Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. The Herman-Ehlinger fun, run, and gun also helps the media push them.
In reality, this wasn't a very good team last year and they lost alot of players. This is also not last year, so...

Good info but this is 2019 and more than half of their starters are new.
