Hannah Gadsby special

I've never seen this special, or this comedian.

I wouldn't bother.
She's been touted as "The Future of Comedy".
Her special quickly becomes a depressing TED talk.
The irony is that, in her special, "The Future of Comedy" says that she's done with jokes.

She hits on important topics and is a powerful speaker. But I wouldn't suggest it to anyone as a comedy special.

Critics are liberals, which is why they need to be ignored on reviews by the public.

because a statement made in jest is more often than not taken seriously.

Compared to his specials in the past this one just wasn't that good. It had a few laughs but was really underwhelming.

I saw two things I could pull up on YouTube - a 3 minute set she did which was pretty damned funny (where she trolls an online troll), and a clip from her special they used to start an interview that was very unfunny to me.

It was pretty fricking hilarious if you find hypocrisy with people in general funny. But if you're an SJW (not saying you are), you didn't like this show one bit. You could tell when the crowd got uncomfortable each time.

The abortion stuff, LGBT stuff, Jussie stuff was all top notch.

All comedians should be able to have sets like this.

It was how horribly telegraphed most of the bits were. The room I watched this with we all said the punchline before it happened.

Chappelle has been much better about this in the past, although when you tackle topical type humor it's hard not to see the joke coming from a mile away.

I have always said that Chris Rock is a master at this, he takes you down the path of a joke with a obvious punchline, and then when you get to it it's not the punchline you thought it was and it makes it funnier.

You can know what's coming and still find it funny if the delivery is good. I think he did that. Different strokes.

ETA: I definitely get what you're saying though.

I legit don’t understand how you can enjoy Dave’s older stuff and think S&S was underwhelming

Different strokes I guess

Like I said earlier, it's the predictive nature of the bits. The punchlines were obvious from The setup.

Also the n-word fig bit wasn't as funny or groundbreaking as many make it out to be. It sounded like that guy who always says "they say the n-word to each other, why can't I say it" guy believing he is saying something deep or prolific.

The point is, Dave is talked about as a Mount Rushmore like comedian, I don't think that was a Mount Rushmore like show. His 2017 shows were a step below his older stuff and those were leagues better than this.

This. I felt like I was watching chappelle show type material in a stand up medium.

I didn't enjoy his other recent-ish netflix specials as much as old dave or S&S. S&S was classic Dave.

Right there with you. I feel like he was way more relaxed and having fun again in this one. Was the best thing I’ve seen on Netflix in years.

frick a critic.

Most pointless job. Watch or listen to something on your own. Make your own assessment.

These frickers try to simplify art while putting themselves over.

I thought it was funny but it wasn't his best special. I love how no one is off limits but still it just wasn't quite as funny as his last 4 or so.

Yes, I am sure that you are right that Kyle Smith, who didn't like it, from National Review, one of the most conservative publications in America, is a liberal. I definitely believe that you thought about your statement before posting it.

Then stop quoting the groupthink of other idiots on the internet. Critics aren't there to validate your opinions. They also aren't there to tell you what to do. You think a 6/4 negative to positive split from 10 critics is keeping people from watch this special?
