UK's The Guardian "The US team’s dispute over pay is a fight for women all over the world"

Thus far, the players have held back from threatening or taking strike action, a tactic used elsewhere, such as by the Republic of Ireland women’s team in 2017, and the Denmark women’s national team that same year – who sat out two fixtures, including a World Cup qualifier to Sweden, before missing out on qualification via a play-off place, their sacrifice having ultimately cost them a shot at automatic qualification.
For now, the USWNT have not had to go down that route, but should US Soccer continue to dig in its heels against a tidal wave of opposition, eventually the team might be forced into the previously unthinkable.
I know I speak for many but I wish they would just go ahead and strike so that replacement players can take their place who look like this

I know it’s not popular to say but they really are underpaid. They do everything the men do and also have to deal with bleeding in their underwear while doing it.

Athletic compensation at the professional level is one of the more truly free markets around, absent league salary caps, and even then, it's still pretty close. You get paid what you are worth, for the most part.

Yet the UK (at least in London) is u see Muslim rule, so much for women’s rights in London

Don’t the women have a far higher downside guarantee of pay than the men do? And don’t they get a greater percentage of the revenue from their World Cup than the men do?
It’s supposed to be equality in treatment, not equality in results.

Women actually made more than men.
quote:
the federation paid out $34.1 million in salary and game bonuses to the women between 2010 and 2018 as opposed to $26.4 million paid to the men. The total does not include the value of benefits received only by the women, like health care.

The frick ever.. They are paid what the market dictates they are paid, plain and simple.

And?? This same team was also bested by a 14U boys team in Texas. Should we pay those HS boys the same?

I thought it was already shown they were making more than the men.

The whole women's soccer portion is more complicated than people think. I think their assertions are a little over blown.

Correct. They receive more revenue per income generated than their male counterparts.

us women's salaries are greater than us mens.
isn't it tournament bonuses that are bases on supply and demand law of unbiased economics what the us women are saying.
England women outplayed the United States women in this specific world cup, so England women should be paid more than the united states women for this specific world cup

I saw an interview with Rapinoe and another from the team last week about this. Apparently the women are paid via a contract they asked for so they wouldn't have to worry about their next paycheck. Unlike the men who are on the bonus system.
So they're bitching about something they wanted.

quote:Then they should get all the other women's national teams to take up their beef with FIFA. Its not US Soccer's fault that the prize pool for the women's tournaments is so much smaller than the pool for the men's tournaments because the men's tournaments bring in so much more in revenue.
