This is the dumbest thing I have read all day.

Instead of washing dishes, take out the trash, fold the laundry, etc.. They are busting their arse at practice and in high risk of getting serious injuries from practising and playing football.

Even at small schools where football either breaks close to even or cost the university, it is still valuable to those schools to have football programs because it is a marketing tool. Just having your logo show up on the scroll when scores are being shown, on TV, is valuable.

And there are going to be some players who come from dirt poor situations. Those players make the decision to commit to your school and you are going to make them pay a fee for doing so?

Having those facilities is what gets you the recruits you need to win. I can see encouraging players on scholarship, who earn degrees to be a donor once they get a job.. And a school like ULL, if they are lucky enough to put a player in the NFL every so many years then those players will be able to give a decent donation.

If I were App St, Arkansas St, Troy, Georgia Southern, etc... I know what I would be telling players I were recruiting who might be considering ULL as well.

You do understand that our players can get paid close to around $900 per month for the cost of attendance, right? Plus, our players are literally laughing at the “publicity” we are getting right now. They’re students first, not pawns. Yes, they help market the program. But they’re not in school just to play football. Remember, less than 1% of all college players go to the NFL. Does it hurt to teach some life lessons while they are on this journey?

Again, the team voted on this and Napier even said that if any player disagreed with this premise that he would pay their share. Not to mention, part of his salary goes to RCAF according to his contract as well.

So this crazy idea that Napier is somehow going to strip someone’s scholarship or make them run laps if they don’t pay their $50 is absurd. People in here are acting as if he has some clipboard with a list to see who’s giving money. The team agreed to this, and some even asked to give more if possible.

I question your knowledge of how 'team votes' work. Just keep being USL bud. I am really enjoying you defending this though.

The whole point of sports is to teach responsibility, teamwork, honor, pride, excersise. So on and so on. It’s to help prepare youth for the grown up world. Sports have obviously become big business and there is a huge entertainment value for those who watch them. But for the players it’s all about learning and development.

Anybody that disagrees with this statement and Napier's policy is a piece of shite. EOM

Where does this fit in with making a mandatory donation to the head coach’s salary??

Regarding your statement, USL would have more state fans if they weren’t such douches about being LSUs little brother. I want to root for USL but the shitty fans like you makes me glad when they lose.

As someone that grew up in Lafayette and went to USL, this is just normal for that place. They always seem to step in it when they think they are doing something good.
I laughed when I first read this story. My first thought was how Napier tried to sell it:
“ Hey guys, look here. LSU has that guy Tyrann Matthieu who gave a million bucks to LSU. How about each one of you giving 50 bucks ? “

You don’t think players would be scared to be on his list he has to pay for? Wouldn’t they be the ones not “bought in”? I wonder what that would mean for their playing time. I bet they would rather pay or vote yes when they disagree than risk getting on the HC’s bad side.

Well, considering the fact that quite a few offered to pay more; I would say no.

We have our own identity. We don’t owe LSU a damn thing. Get that through your entitled mind.

You’re trash dude... In no way should you condone this action by the Athletic department. It’s sad that you’re calling out tiger fans for sticking up for YOUR players and we are “weak minded”.

While you have no tradition, how about ask your coach to carve out 10k-100k of his salary and give back to the program for the opportunity to coach. He should take ownership of his program and thank god to be a Cajun.
