Reagan was a common sense gun control kind of guy.
He made it illegal to carry loaded firearms in national parks (gun free zones) and endorsed the Brady bill.
Ironically.. Obama undid the Reagan era prohibitions on carrying loaded firearms in national parks during his first month in office.

Reagan seemed like a larger than life character to the teenage me back then. As I am sure Trump is to young conservatives today. Especially after surviving the assassination attempt at his age.

I was 15 when Reagan won the Presidency of a country that was losing to the Soviets as the preeminent world super power, when he left office eight years later they were on deaths doorway as a nation.

California used to vote Republican back in those days.
It never will again, due in large part to it being overrun by Latinos who primarily vote Dem.
