It is that simple.

Reagan's amnesty only created more illegal crossings, because the precedent of granting illegals citizenship had been set.

California used to vote Republican back in those days.

It never will again, due in large part to it being overrun by Latinos who primarily vote Dem.

He owned it later. He acknowledged as much, said it was the biggest regret of his presidency. Not that it makes it any less unfortunate but it’s significant he owned his mistake as a warning to future conservatives.

Reagan was a true statesman as President.

President Trump, while better than having Benghazi cover-upper in the White House, can’t carry Reagan’s jock in that regard.

The main reason is we had nothing but Bushes and democrats for 28 fricking years.

Reagan was great, but he could have been mediocre and beaten what followed him for the next 28 years.

When I was younger I don't remember this complete lionization of Reagan to this extent at least.

Reagan was the most powerful US President in my lifetime. He had Gorbachev quivering like a virgin.

Reagan was the miserable SOB that allowed our Social Security to get twisted into the clusterfrick it is today.

Don't take my word for it.

Look it up yourself.

And his biggest mistake as governor was signing therapeutic abortion into law. Something he did very little to nothing about as president. Amnesty and abortion and y'all want to make him a conservative standard. He basically John Kerryed y'all... I was for it, before I was against it

And still he was better than any after him for 28 years and better than anybody running against him

If only that perfect conservative unicorn would run

Sadly true. Presidents in my 39 years have been pretty awful. Most/damn near all in the last 100 years have been garbage, in my opinion. It's certainly not an issue I solely blame on Ron.

In Reagans defense, it should be noted that Republicans and Democrats do have different schools of thought in their parties.

California was predominantly of whats known as the Eisenhower Republican. That line of thought is very different than Reaganomics.

Just like Democrats have Wilsonian Democrats, Clinton Democrats, and the far left Leninist types.

No President since 1900 can claim being conservative bc of the Federal Reserve Act and none of them have done shite to get rid of it.

The last conservative POTUS? Was a Dem:
quote:

Grover Cleveland (1885-1889, 1893-1897): Cleveland was a pro-business Democrat who supported lower tariffs and battled government corruption, patronage, and high taxes. He broke the Pullman Strike of 1894, which was threatening to paralyze the nation’s transportation system. He vetoed 584 bills in his eight years mostly to cut excessive spending, yet had only seven vetoes overridden.
