I have said often that the tide of public opinion will eventually turn on this issue with each of these incidents. People expect thugs to kill each other. They don't expect to these things o happen at schools, theaters, or shopping at Wal Mart.

Exactly correct. And in our current climate democrats have no fear of this subject. In fact a majority of residents in California and New York, Vermont, Connecticut etc. likely support gun control. So the long hard battle has begun and republicans politicians likely feel more heat than democrats.
