What are your guys advice?
Do you guys wet sand over 1000 before compound?
Any choice on what compound to use?
Do you use wool or foam for the compound?
I am use to the polish and wax, just never started with a boat this bad.

I wet sanded mine with 3000 grit, buffed with 3M rubbing compound then put two coats of wax. Was alot of work but came out looking like new!

Before you wet sand try using rubbing compound and a buffer.
If that doesn’t cut it then wet sand, rubbing compound with buffer, the wax with buffer.

google "acid washing boats". I know you can get yellow stains off with the various acids in some of these boat products. There are several threads out there on using muriatic acid but you got to be very careful with that.

This is a boat i recently did for a buddy who guides out of it and it gets a lot of abuse. I brought the shine back to the hull and the console as well.
3m is good stuff

So you just use it with a buffer? One side of my boat could use freshening

Yes i use a da buffer, you can use an orbital buffer as well, wool pads and a microfiber to remove it. Gelcoat is forgiving compared to a car clear coat.
This 3m restorer is easy to use i also went back over the boat with a marine collinite wax

I used the foam pads for a 7 inch orbital after I took the old decals off my boat. You could easily see the color difference after 14 years of having them on there. Those pads and some buffing/rubbing compound has it looking new and like they were never there.
Edit: Foam pads from Harbor Freight.

I got to spend some time on a test spot last night.
Unless i want to compound the same area 7 times its going to be wet sanding.
Maybe if it was a white boat it wouldn't need it but the colored hull sides need that 1000 grit to knock off the heavy layer.
The top side is going to be fine with just compound, polish, and wax.
I guess this old boat hasn't had any wax in the last 15 years.

do some test spots but you are gonna need more aggressive grit than 3000.
russell marine products has a pretty good vid on youtube.

I just did some work on our Seadoo (Red over Black) and had both the 3m restorer wax and collonite restorer wax
The 3m worked better on the upper 1/2 that was red and more oxidized, but wasn't as good on the black lower 1/2 which the collonite did a better job on...go figure!
Still could use a bit more work on both 1/2's, but I'm thinking I'm not getting it close to factory new without some wet sanding.

Presta gel coat compound with the matching pad from them.
Variable speed rotary buffer. Dewalt is good.
Dampen the surface and make a 2 x 2 foot test spot
