It truly baffles me how anyone cannot see this.

I think I've read somewhere where we just rather recently surpassed the pre-prohibition number of different breweries operating in the US.

We surpassed that number about 5-10 years ago.

Jumping Christ in a handbasket what a moronic quote...surely this was said tongue in cheek? The freer a country is the more it prospers. Good god almighty you couldn't be any more ignorant than to believe any such tripe as that. The most prosperous nations on earth and in the history of mankind have all been HEAVILY REGULATED. There is NO ownership of ANYTHING without regulations that ensure private property rights BUT impede on the freedoms of others to use property, steal property or otherwise prevent its use by its rightful owner. Somalia is a great example of a truly free nation....people in Somalia are free to do just about anything they have the intestinal fortitude to do because there is no one to stop them if they are intent on doing it....that's prosperous??

There are a BUNCH of socialist economies in Europe and they make a BUNCH of truly good beer. The United States, I know, is not a socialist economy in y'alls eyes (it is as much as any European nation but that'll make many of you spit up) and presumably as prosperous as a nation gets...and makes some seriously LOUSY beer that it sales by the boat load.....the entire premise is exactly the kind of silliness that Fox puts out and many of you eat with a spoon....

1) did you read the article completely.
2) Name them.

I'd put America's beer up against ANY BEER, worldwide. Our craft beer market is heads and tails better than anything in the word. The only category that could contend is geueze/lambic in Belgium vs. American sours, and even then, i've enjoyed far more American sours than Belgian sours. Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen, and a couple others are the outlier.

Fox didn't "put it out", genius. They just reported it. Economists wrote the book on it. Do you deny that the truly socialist countries can't produce quality...anything really?

Same here. And yeah, idiotic rambling is an apt description. He's all over the place.

What is a truly socialist country? Do you mean a country with a socialist economy or one with socialistic tendencies where collective effort is utilized to meet some societal requirements (all nations in the history of man have had some element of the latter).

China isn't one. Cuba has a communist economy....And can and does produce incredibly good healthcare, such that many Europeans, Asians and Canadians travel to Cuba for affordable, high quality health care.

I think most of the posters here consider almost all of Europe socialist countries...and almost all of Europe produces all sorts of high quality shite...

Here is a better question...what nation on earth practices unfettered capitalism? If they aren't ruled by war-lords there chief industry is banking and finance....they don't produce anything. Singapore may be the exception BUT the government of Singapore owns more of the means of production than every nation on earth except Norway...so its hard to not call Singapore a truly socialist country....

Totalitarianism is what doesn't work....not unfettered capitalism or communism...when you have a totalitarian government forcing people to produce they won't period...and when you have no law (unfettered capitalism)only the most willing can survive. SOmewhere in the middle is where the sweet spot is and that is a combination of sensible regulation, sensible taxation to provide for collective services and opportunity....and that is the western world in a nutshell.....

While living in Eastern Europe, I used to drink Georgian wine and loved it.

You should REALLY read the article, before posting.

Again, you really need to read the article.

quote:

Listen, guber. No one is stating anything about "unfettered" capitalism. For the love of God, read the damn article, you twit.

Inane rabble.

READ THE ARTICLE. Then quote parts of the article (within the context) and we can discuss.

The market is smarter than any of us. That's the genius of capitalism.

In a capitalistic system (even those with malevolent actors, monopolies, trusts, etc), one does well, generally, being of service to others.

In a Socialist/Communist system, one does well by sucking up and being of value to the authorities.

Of the two, one is clearly freer and far more of a meritocracy than the other, which is the antithesis of a meritocracy. It is, at a minimum, corrupting by nature and, typically, utterly corrupt.
