Honestly I think Webb Memorial is one of the worst layouts I've ever played in my life. It's not exactly ideal when multiple holes have apartment complexes with drug dealers living there and in play and hassling golfers. LSU Golf Course is much more enjoyable to play than Webb
Are you forgetting about the apartment complexes with drug dealers right behind LSU's 2nd green/3rd tee? I've had way more issues with outsiders on LSU's course over the years than I ever had Webb.
But I'm sad to see what's become of LSU's course lately.

That is a lot of golf for this area. People are finally going to get exactly what they are paying for. If they want $16 golf then we have all gotten what we deserved.
Yep, let me just roll up to BRCC and see if they've got room for a single.

Just because they don't impact you. They impact the golf industry in Baton Rouge. Every golf member they have is someone who will be playing a lot less (maybe play none) at the Public courses. These are the kinds of people you need at your favorite course to keep it a float.

Private golf has 0 impact or correlation to public golf unless there are 0 private courses or unless a private course is charging nominal dues, which is unlikely.
In BR, there isn't a member of UClub, CCL, or BRCC that would join the ranks of public golfers at Santa Maria if their course closed. I lie, maybe there are, but the number isn't significant.

Well that's just false.

The big private courses impact demand on Public courses. That is a fact. How big of a demand is hard to say but I think some of the most active players become members of private courses and that would mean a lot of rounds for places like Beaver Creek and Santa Maria.
I think most members would commit suicide when they got to BREC day one.

Completely. I know members of those clubs who will play at Beaver and SM now.

I wonder what the member numbers look like at the three clubs? Uclub has to have far and away the most members as I've heard the course is pretty overcrowded all the time.

First, I caveated my statement that said some would have not joined a new club. But a better way of saying it is this: if one of those clubs wasn't there, the member would have likely joined one of the other clubs.
I don't think there is an appreciable impact.

If one closes, it prices up the membership at the other 2. This would in turn price out some members of each, and move them into the public course pool. Or the second option is that both fill up with membership and do not have room for all, once again moving some into the public course pool. There's no hypothetical you can draw to escape the supply and demand chain.

Webb, City Park and LSU have some kind of emotional nostalgic attachment that makes people lose all sense of logic and reasoning when discussing them.

Just LSU for me, the other two can close for all I care. Wish Beaver Creek were closer to BR, it's the actual best bargain in the area. Maybe Carter and the Island too.

I can tell. You have 6 Posts and they are all in this thread.
ETA: You will always find me and Johnny Lawrence trying to solve the BR golf problems in these threads.

Or maybe they serve a purpose, especially for those people who can't justify dropping a $6K initiation fee and $352 a month to join U-Club.

So emotional, you prove my point. If LSU closes you will still have Webb, CP, Dumas, Clark, SM and Beaver. You won't have to join U-Club. Plenty of cheap tee times available at all of them too.

BR public golf is just terrible for the size of the city is the takeaway here.
One of the few things I miss about living in br is the access to cheap public golf.

And for the most part, these are my favorite threads. Going back and forth makes me think. I enjoy the discussion. We have different point of views on some things, but unlike other portions of the site, we've remained fairly civil.

Not going to lie, one of the main reasons I play at LSU is for the free beer at Walk-On's afterwards

No, it's financial, not emotional. I can play two rounds at Webb for what it costs to play one at Santa Maria or Beaver Creek. Ditto for LSU. And I don't have to spend time driving to Zachary or Denham or Plaquemine or Gonzales to do it.
