You can take paternity leave for a flag football injury?

Don't give that much PTO then if you didn't want someone to use it in a situation like this so they can take their time to recover from surgery

No way I would be able to do it because I freak out if I take 2-3 consecutive days off in a row, but if the dude has the PTO and maternity then no one can really complain.

It’s gonna suck balls for him when he comes back.

I am, which is why he shouldn't be taking 6 weeks off. Everyone else has to pick up his slack. My rub is he's saying I'm not doing shite for 6 weeks. You can answer emails from home to atleaet help the people out that are making sure your work gets done

Baw probably had a baby in the last few months and didn't use all his paternity leave because he was being a good employee and getting back to work as soon as he could. Now Mingo is mad that his employee has that paternity leave leftover to use while he recovers from an ACL tear.

At my firm he’d probably be laughed at for doing it

At my firm our HR department straight up said I was not allowed to work until the received a memorandum from my doctor detailing when I was cleared to come to work.

Hell I was fine to work the next day after the surgery, but was told I was forbidden from logging in until I met the two week requirement from my doctor to even work from home.

Paid Time OFF. If you're expecting him to answer work emails from home, then he's working and shouldn't be burning his PTO.

Where do you work?
HR doesn’t really get involved that much for things like this because it’s such a big firm
Had a guy miss a week in the office after ACL surgery. Logged in a few days after it and then was back that Monday

You clearly are not. You even went as far as getting on the internet to bitch about it to strangers. Get off the internet, put your head down, do the job you chose and go home.

Do 50 hours worth of work between 3 people a week on top of the normal amount of work we do.

It's not the fact he's taking time off. It's the fact that he can't be bothered to try to help the people making sure his shite gets done.

Wrong... it's the company's shite. Hence, your shite.

And 50 extra hours between three people is like 3 hours extra a day... you KNOW you frick off for probably 4 of the 8 hours in the work day... that still leaves you with 1.

There... look on the bright side.

I tore up my knee last November and had surgery in early December. ACL and meniscus reconstruction... wasn't a lot of fun.

Because of the meniscus part of the surgery I wasn't supposed to put any weight on my knee or drive for 7 weeks, so I was out of the office for 7 weeks. I used sick leave for the majority of it but did also work from home as much as possible.

I wasn't able to physically be there, but I did make sure that as much as I could accomplish remotely I handled.

It led to them knowing that I could do a LOT remotely, and now I work 100% remotely from a different state, so I guess it all worked out for me in the end.

He pretty much explicitly stated he will not be doing the same. If he can't come in that's fine. We work from home all the time, he just wants to take a 6 week sabatical

We're also a big (law) firm. And HR got involved because my boss asked how they needed to code my time out of the office. Turns out we didn't need to code anything, but once they found out why I was going to be out, I got the request for the memo and stipulations when I could come back. Idea being that if I came back to work earlier than my doctor allowed and I hurt my neck, the firm could be liable.

And it's not that I wanted to stay home that long. I was going batshit crazy after only a week.
