My soon to be ex-boss is insecure, messy and gossipy.

He had some medical issues and I was hired to replace him.
He is still working here but I have assumed the job fully now. All he does is create chaos and drama.
He constantly complains and tries to control everything and everybody. He says he is trying to save the company $$ but in the long run of things his ways actually cost the company more.
He is the most negative man ive ever been around.
He thinks this company cant run without him. It is running, if not better without him.
My pet-peeve is him standing in my doorway trying to peek at what im doing. Im getting to the point where I will go to the head boss man and tell him he is more of a hassle than asset.
How would the OT handle this old guy

Keep your composure and be nice if he's on his way out.. You never know what the future holds.

Let's hear his viewpoint about you.

I am. I think he's hurt that he is being forced out. I feel bad for him in that regard. He has held this company back from growing because of him being afraid of change.

It's odd that he's still there if you were hired to replace him and have taken over the position completely.
It sounds like for whatever reason humoring him and letting him stay around for awhile to feel useful/important is valuable to those above you, so I'd keep that in mind.

You were hired to replace him, right?
Boss move would be to fire him.

I totally agree with that statement.
He is very useful in some things. However, his mind is slowly leaving him.

The fact you ask this question tells me the company is no better off with you in charge.

It sucks but sounds like they trusted you to be able to mitigate any fallout from his deterioration in addition to the job itself... I'd take the high road if possible.
You may wind up getting some institutional knowledge out of it and/or look like a rockstar to the big bosses.

We would shite on his desk.
You should just make your sec rant threads required reading for him. It will keep him busy and not cost the company any $$$$

Next time, lean back and knuckle-check his arse.
Then grin like AOC and watch him run.
