Now even rookies and second year guys are too good to play summer league. Kind of a let down not getting to see Morant. Clarke is a monster.

Clarke was definitely a nice find for Grizz at pick 21. Completely understand the Pels not drafting him though as they already drafted 1 supercharged 6ft 7in PF named Zion.
Getting multiple undersized Power Forwards that largely occupy the same space on the floor would’ve been redundant. It’s nice to have Hayes because he provides a different archetype and also a higher ceiling.
Assuming Hayes develops to his potential, you can play Zion and Hayes on the court at the same time. I’m unsure that you can say the same about Zion and Clarke unless you are playing against a team that is going really small.

The premise of this thread is to specifically update us on the summer league performance of two unrelated players?

anyone that watched him could tell you he is good. He was one of my 5 favorites in the draft. He is going to be an old rook, and likely never a superstar. I give him less than 1% chance he is ever a legit superstar. But he will be a contributor right away and for his entire career. He isn't raw like a lot of the younger guys, which is expected.

Doubt he ever amounts to anything more than a bench big in the league. Low b-ball IQ.

There are a lot of knocks against Reid
Is not one of them

You shut your mouth. Winning the summer league championship is second in importance only to winning the NBA title. Well, now it is. Before last night, or had last night's outcome been different, it wouldn't matter even as much as winning the G league.

Teams are dumb for passing on Clarke. I get wanting a high ceiling and worrying about size and stuff, but I don't get how teams consistently pass on guys who are clearly good basketball players once it starts to hit the late lottery, particularly in a draft that isn't super deep.

I mean he’s undersized and he’ll be 23 on opening night. Imagine how good the freshman/sophomores drafted ahead of him would look if they got 4 years of college and played in the 2021 summer league.

Morant was hurt, didn’t skip it

There are some things that are intangible. Clarke has those things.

no one said this draft wasn't deep... the criticism of it was that it was top heavy, as far as great prospects, but it was pretty well known you could get some real value all the way into the 2nd round....

If Clarke can hit catch and shoot 3 pointers I actually think the ceiling is higher than people think. He can slot at the 4 regularly in that case and has all defense upside on the other end.

Sure is...

He also understands how to play. He has a high basketball IQ. He plays bigger than his size. He's one of the most efficient players in the country.

It’s summer league, but he looked pretty good shooting it. He was probably the second most athletic player in the draft behind Zion and flashed ridiculous defensive upside and basketball IQ in college. If he develops a decent spot up three I have a hard time seeing how he won’t be a really good NBA player.
