Well...especially since the creators are no longer brothers and are instead “sisters,” that would likely happen.

Though, the movies were that anyway. If you noticed, many of the folks in Zion were minorities, as were many members of the crews. Who would want to “wake up” more, a suburban white person or a struggling minority? (Since the Matrix was sold to us as an approximation of our current world, I make those assumptions.)

On top of that, there is a reason why everyone is running around in latex/BDSM clothing.
