i dont think so, yes the structure was based on a never ending loop that continuously repeats itself generation after generation, but where do you go that wasnt covered already?

the 3 or 4 they did was neatly tied into each other the best they could do in my opinion even though i think the final one was really sub par compared to the others. i think that was mainly due to them seeing as well that there was nowhere else to go that wasnt covered already except kill off the main characters in a way that fit with the story

You didnt find out there was a continuous loop in the first film. All we knew was there was a war between man and machine, a virtual world was used to control the human population and there was a prophecy regarding a savior (resurrection story ala Christ).

The whole purpose of the 1st movie was to establish the prophecy as true for the audience. Thats just the tip of the iceberg as it completely leaves wide open how that prophecy is fulfilled......how does The One "hail the destruction of the Matrix, end the war; bring freedom to our people"?

The sequels were blank pages at that point.
