This thread is about young and single . Being outside the city isn't ideal for that.

The vast majority of younger people would prefer to live in New Orleans than dfw or htx if money is equal

Prytania between Napoleon and State

A friend lives on Prytania between Marengo and Constantinople for like $600 in a cute place that feels perfectly safe. Seems everyone I know in NOLA has had good luck finding tucked away gems like this for ridiculously low costs.

Vast majority? I don't know about that. Maybe if you asked this board or a bunch of people that are unfamiliar with both, but it would be interesting for someone unfamiliar with both live in each for a year. Of course it would be completely objective, but I think it'd probably be pretty close.

The problem is NOLA is shitty and it's going to be hard to match the markets in those other cities.

If you can, and most people can, you should leave Louisiana. It's a failed state that cannot be fixed.

Uptown/LGD around Magazine st.
Warehouse
Midcity around N. Carrolton/Jeff Davis would be ok

Nobody, outside of the bordering states, gives a shite about Houston or Dallas. They’re good places to live but very bland.

Everyone knows about New Orleans and loves it.

Which is exactly the context of the post in response to Mingo. But I agree.

This isnt a where is it easier to find a good job thread.

can walk from Steins to Courtyard in 15 minutes

This isnt bad advice but greatlakes doesn't come across as someone that would be hanging out at courtyard

Speaking of that place, the owner needs to borrow some more money and buy a weed whacker

Zero days because I spent enough time there and have enough friends from there that I knew I didn't want to. Not that there are very many good jobs there anyway

Hey if you like it, great, but to act like it is for everybody or gleaming with opportunity is misguided.

Live in the Warehouse District and make the Rusty Nail your go to neighborhood bar where you get to know the bartenders. Profit.

Can't go wrong with Uptown, Garden District, Warehouse District, Central Business District, or the Mid-City (Esplanade/City Park area) imo.

Young and single and you choose New Orleans to live?

It's a pretty damn good choice for a young single person. I wouldn't want to put roots down and raise a family there - maybe Metairie or the Northshore - but I know firsthand its a great, fun place to be young and single.

I’ve lived in all the places

Uptown is good depending on which part, on magazine would probably be ideal or at least in very close walking distance. There are a ton of attractive women in the rum house/bulldog area

CBD is great if you are willing to compromise on space. But you can walk to most places including the WHD. You can walk to saints and pelicans games. Champions square, Wednesday’s at the square, French quarter fest, events like that. I’d suggest the south market area. They are currently building a 30 story residential high rise that will be done in 2020 as well.

WHD was like a slightly less convenient CBD, it’s better if you like bars like Lucy’s and district, cbd is better if you like the hotel bar scene

Whatever you do, stay on the superdome side of poydras

Posting with little context, surprising.

Nobody said anything about job opportunities. This thread assumes the opportunity is there. it also goes to show your opinion is driven by perceived career opportunities, not the actual enjoyment of living in a given city.

By the way I started my career in the same industry as you, in Nola. Spent a ton of time in the big Texas cities. I like them just fine and many of my friends did/do too, but most of those people have found their way home by now. There is opportunity in Nola but not to support a major city’s population.
