No spoilers obviously. I don’t want to read anything about the game, but is there anything that I absolutely SHOULDN’T do? Like “if you kill so and so, then you’ll never get these side missions” or whatever.

You can progress past some side missions. So, if you are worried about that, i'd knock them out as they pop up. When you have none left, do some more story until more pop up, etc.

Advance in the main story far enough to unlock the map and fast travel. Also, setting a waypoint and entering cinematic mode on your horse will put you on auto-pilot to your destination. Use carriages/trains too. There's plenty of content in this game, don't need to spend hours travelling.

I never got past chapter 2 sadly. Just felt like there was too much stuff to try to get a handle on, maybe I should give it another try.

Definitely don’t skip missions involving your camp. You learn a lot about each character by doing missions with them and were my favorite part of the game.

I started it a month ago and I’m close to finishing. Here are a few tips I’d give.
- I would recommend making a new save for each chapter in case you want to go back. Chapters 2-4 have the best camps.
- Don’t plow through the story. Do stranger missions as you come across them and take time to grind out the satchels from the cook. You will get one that allows you to carry 99 of everything and it makes looting much less of a hassle.
- Explore. If something looks interesting there is probably a reason why. The world is beautiful and I’ve wasted hours just wandering.
- If you are overwhelmed at first don’t put it down. I was a bit overwhelmed at how much I had to do to stay alive, keep my horse in top riding condition, etc. you will pick it up quick.
- Catch and break the white Arabian horse ASAP. It’s one of the best horses in the game and is available as soon as the world opens up.
- Don’t trade in jewelry/valuables to the camp donation box. Just donate enough to upgrade camp. You will need the stuff for later.
- if you have a high bounty and a lot of cash then spend your cash first. The more cash you have on hand if you die or surrender the more the game takes away from you. Also, if you have a $500 bounty just antagonize a cop and surrender if you are broke. Your bounty will go away fully no matter how little cash you have.
- be sure to clean your guns
That’s what I’ve got off of the top of my head.

Don't bother spending a lot of money on weapons and outfits and supplies early on, shite like that, what you find in the world is more than enough to get by.
Upgrading the Camp Lodgings twice is the best use of money early, as that unlocks fast travel which is by far the most useful thing your money will buy the entire game.

Don't try to name your horse Sugar Tits, it won't go well.

you can turn off the looting animation that is so damn frustrating. do this now
don't run into people on your horse
keep one of those horse revive potions on you at all times. cant think of the name
the pump shotgun is great
take your time exploring. once its over you'll be sad.

You shouldn’t play it
It’s the worst game of last year and super overhyped

I loved it. Not as much as first. Still enjoyed story though.

Once you find a good horse ( either by taming a wild one or buying one ) don't frick around and get it killed.
