So how does the magellan ice chest compare to a grossly overpriced white or green yeti or hypothetically one with no colors?

Just like them but way lower in price.
Academy has them
Academy has them

I have one...it is fine and my only complaint is that sometimes the seal around the drain plug has a slow leak. Also mine is brown...and gets hot in the sun. I have thought about painting it white

I have a grey 70 qt and it has held up well.

The reviews aren’t all that great on Academy website

I had one. It didn’t keep ice even a whole day.
Junk.

I just got the Coleman version of Yeti. It’s awesome..... keeps ice for days. I paid $170.

Yeti is nothing but a name now. The cheaper coolers are just as good as yeti. Hell some of them are better then yeti.

They are not on the level of rtic k2 yeti. They arnt much better than a hard plastic box

I have a few icechest. Cheap arse igloos and such.
My test over the years have shown they will not cool down shite without ice.
But, when I put ice in mine it really seems to help cool things down. Drinks always come out cold. Fish always stay cold, hell even stiff and partially frozen at times.
It sucks having to always put ice in my cooler but it is what it is. Maybe one day I will get lucky and find one of the newer bad arse ice chest that look big on the outside but are actually small on the inside and make you risk throwing your back out to lift them even when they are empty.
One day... I will keep on wanting and dreaming.

My shite ice chest isn't as good I agree. Hence my post stating I hope one day to own one. But until that day I will continue to add ice to mine just to make it work.
It really isn't that bad. Ice isn't all that expensive and lots of places have it for sale. You just have to know where to look.
I have been buying ice for so long I don't know what I would do if I didn't have too anymore!

What you said about the space vs the amount of room they take up is another issue for me, also.

I wish there were still ice houses you could fill a chest up with.

Bought a Lifetyme from Walmarks for $99 last summer primarily because it fit under my lean post. I have been very impressed with the inside space and ability to hold ice two days straight.

Has anyone noticed deer doesn't melt the ice as fast as fish? I haven't figured it out yet, but sometime's, usually late in the season, I don't have to hardly add ice at all after the initial ice down.

Lifetime also makes a nice one for $99.
Made in USA...just as good as Yeti. Actually better in some ways.
