Another government created crisis. The student loan debacle.

Every time government takes over a program, costs rise, because there is no incentive to control cost or monitor quality.

While politicians often suggest throwing more money at the problem, that will only make things worse. In fact, the surest way to stop the sharp rise in both college tuition and student debt is to get the federal government out of the student loan business. That cuts off the open spigot of money that has allowed colleges to increase costs virtually without limit. Restoring private lending will make the loan market more responsible and cause colleges to rein in costs, creating more affordable choices for students. Private lending will also limit taxpayers’ exposure to billions of dollars in loan defaults.

Yes, but this one was just elemental economics. The massive expansion of nearly free lending led to runaway inflation.

This one is frustrating, because the answer is just so damn simple. Still, big gov stooges want to address only the symptoms rather than the underlying cause, inevitably making the cause even worse. Utter ridiculousness.

At what point do we hold the universities accountable for :
1 worthless college degree programs used to keep in low performing students to take out student loans
2 increasing tuition to pay for non educational necessary programs and infrastructure paid for by students taking out student loans.
3 college should be 3 years and the elective years cut from curriculums.
Along with many other wastes at the university level. The universities are the pimps causing and deepening the student loan crisis.

College ain't for everybody y'all.
They pushed that narrative that it was the end all be all.
That part of the reason we're in this mess.

Check the typical Evergreen College graduate.

Any private university accepting students with student loans should be considered co-signers on said loans.

I got one better for you - more partnerships with high schools and have your college prep kids get their foundational year or so out of the way in 11th and 12th grade, will raise the standards and STILL allow for electives in a 3-year window.
I mean, I still believe that a University education has some value, but they are 24/7 indoctrination centers for the left, largely, and have been for over 50 years.

I work in this business and I can tell you that it's out of control. The amount of money that is being lent to today's students is CRIMINAL!! OUTRAGEOUS!!! But bernie will pay if all off with a credit card

This problem perpetuated itself too.
More money for kids led to more colleges turning into country clubs with expensive amenities.
I paid 1500 per semester. My child's cost is over 5000 a semester but the new gym is really nice.

This will NEVER happen. Progressives have a stranglehold on education. Part of the "process" to transform America is to continue the path of altering our educational system.
As long as they are producing brain dead zombies that regurgitate all the Proggy talking points, they do not care. The college gets rich, the Professors get protection, and the student is forever in debt, blaming someone else for their failure.
That's a win-win for the left.
Getting the government to rob the treasury that is paid for by their "enemies" to fund this boon would be the cherry on top of the sundae. They know this, but don't care.
fricking up Higher Ed to own the cons.

What a great way to keep youngins on the plantation. Demand every child should go to college, bury them in debt, give useless degree, and make sure their socialist hero will bail them out as long as they stay loyal to their Marxist overlords

I posted the following in a previous thread but no one answered. Maybe the question(s) will get answered in this thread...thanks.
I have some questions about student loans. Do they cover the cost differential for out of state tuition and/or the cost differential of private vs public universities?
Depending on the degree of choice it makes absolutely no sense for the borrower to get a loan to cover additional out-of-state tuition cost to obtain a General Business(basically any BoA degree) or another non-technical degree just so they can attend their favorite school.
The earning power of the business degree is going to be the same regardless if it's in state or out of state but the borrower has twice the debt if he/she goes out-of-state to get the degree.
I have absolutely no idea how the student loan system works, so if I'm wrong about student loans covering OOS tuition I apologize.

Student loans can be for in or out of state, public or private.
